so, i am interested in this camera for its features and the memory stick capability which i think will make capturing alot easy especially on the go, i want to know what the experts on newschoolers think of the camera and its features....any opinion will be greatly appreciated

Flash memory is probably one of the best ideas ever. But as of now, AVCHD still doesn't compete with HDV's superior quality. I have no doubt that one day another codec will outperform HDV, but AVCHD hasn't convinced me yet.

So... Forget the HF10 and pick up the HV30.

if you can find it a little cheaper...go with the hv20. it is pretty much = to the hv30 just silver, the only main difference is the zoom is a tad different, not enough to pay the difference...

check out www.hv20.com for some people selling and more info on all canon's

There are only 6 differences between the two cameras.

1. The HV30 adds 30p to the list of available frame rates (24p and 60i).

2. The zoom rocker toggle is larger than the one on the HV20, and different.

3. The LCD screen is brighter with a better viewing angle than the HV20.

4. The HV30 will fully charge the high-capacity battery in one cycle.

5. The Advanced Accessory Shoe cover is tethered to the camera.

6. The body color is black; the HV20 was silver.

For $800, I would pick up the HV30 with hesitation, mainly because of the better zoom toggle (HV20's was a pain in the ass) and the 30P. If you want me to explain progressive I shall, but to keep it simple, it's better for sport.

Even Panasonic's new AVCHD camera wont. The format just has too low of a data rate just to fit onto the flash memory.
The only help i can give ya is the advice to stay away from anything that is not tape until you get to a P2 camera or XD (SxS cards) camera.
