Canon t5, problems with shutter priority autoexposure mode

Alright, I am just gonna say right off the bat that i am not the best with cameras. Every time I am in Tv mode, the camera has problems with light. all the photos I get are pitch black except for generally one focused point of light (i.e a lamp). even in lit rooms i am struggling with this. I am not sure how i did describing this problem, but any advice?

Well Tv mode isn't full "auto" you have to set your shutter speed. It sounds like your shuttler is super high, or maybe the indoor area you in is too dark for even a low shutter.
