hey guys, what are your thoughts on the canon rebel t2i?im thinking of buying it for the next season...how's the video quality? picture quality? can i take it to the slopes or will it fuck up the camera?I know its a decent camera for its price, but if you guys recommend anything else, please let me know...thanks

I own one and love it, but there are a lot of ups and downs to using one. You feel like you are ready to handle a dslr (aka full manual settings all the time)

so i just thought i would thread jack this for a moment because i have 1200 in cash ready to go out and buy my t2i today. my question is: if I know my way around a nikon d40 like the back of my hand (been using one for almost two years) then how hard of a transition will it be to a cannon model? i heard the function layout is a bit of a mess...

You'll be fine. It will take an hour to figure out what's where and then you will be golden.

Buy the body, a good tripod( a manfrotto 701hdv setup is good) and a few primes to start.

I just finished unboxing it and its RAD!!!! i didnt really expect the lcd screen to be as big as it is either, its awsome! glad i didnt go for the kit too, the lens in kind of a joke...

Here are a few options:
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 (constant aperture)Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5

My opinion? Depends on just how wide you want, but if you want a dedicated wide angle, go with the Tokina. I have used the Sigma 12-24, and while very nice, wide, and greater zoom range, the higher f-stop isn't as great for depth of field or low light stuff, and it's not constant aperture meaning as you zoom in, the aperture will change from f/4.5 to f5.6 (if you have it set at f/4). Of course, you can leave it at 5.6 and that won't happen, but you are sacrificing a one or two stops there.
Keep in mind that these are EF-S lenses, designed specifically for the APS-C chip in your camera. If you upgrade to a full frame camera you will have some major vignetting. If you're not going to upgrade any time soon, you should have great results with these.
