Canon G12 camera???

Anyone have any experience with the G12 camera?? Ive been looking into it because it has the simplicity of a point+shoot but has lots of manual features. Ill be taking pictures spontaneously at the beach and mountain and I really like the G12's small size. If anyone could elaborate on the G12 or comparable high-end point and shoot cams it would be great. Basically my budget is $500 and im looking for a simple cam that takes dope pics.

i know you said small size, but im just making sure that you know it won't fit in your pocket right? its not a credit card cam, its really thick. with that said, many pros use it along side their dslrs. you may also want to check out the panasonic lx5, it is essentially a leica d-lux 5

Thanks man! im gona look into it. And ya, i dont care if its pocket size.Id acctually perfer it not to be. I just dont want to get into the dslr stuff (bigger bulkier cams with a body and different lenses etc.)

also has 720p video. just an extra bonus if you wanted to get a little clip on the slopes to study what youre doing right/wrong but you dont want to bring a video camera setup.

I had a G7 way back in the day, and it was an amazing little camera. I would definitely recommend this, they could only be getting better.

i used to have a G9. It's an awesome little camera. I'd highly recommend the G12. The main downside to me between the G12 and the SLR's is the delay between pushing the button and the snap. Electronic style shutters on point and shoots have so much delay that I find them frustrating for action sports. Something to think about...

yah the only thing i could see getting a g12 for is the use of a hotshoe, but at that point you mine as well just get a t2i or comparable dslr
