So ive heard rumours candides 2 year movie project is going to be game changing for skiing, and on the same level as the art of flight in the game changing departerment, has any one seen any footage or heard the same thing? the movie is sponsored by Quiksilver and has taken candide away from the normal ski scene for 2 years based of his old movies this one will be fucking amazing thoughts info ect?

Skiers could spend 10 years making a movie and it still wouldn't compare to the Art of Flight...

I thought it was supposed to be released last fall, but it's sort of dropped off the radar.

busy busy

Not unless they get cameras of that quality.

There is a thread on TGR discussing The Art of Flight. Apparently, they have access to a camera that blows away anything TGR or MSP has. I don't know if Brain Farm owns it, or if they rent it, but that is why the quality of the shots is so insane. TAOF shots make TGR/MSP shots look as it they were taken with a foggy lense. The thread goes on to say that neither TGR nor MSP has even close to the budget to get one of these cameras. If you go to TGR, you can find the thread where this is discussed. I don't know enough about cameras to give any more details.

In terms of the actual skiing, Candide should produce some amazing footage. I can't wait to see it.

Production quality is on a whole nother level as well, but what I meant is T Rice is soooo sooooo far ahead of anyone else in either sport

Dont know about actual cameras but I know they had 8 - 10 angles for almost every single shoot that they did in the movie.

Unless brain farm makes it, it wont be anything like TITA or TAOF. Half the reason the movies that brain farm produce are so good is because of their production value.

was Art of Flight really a game changer though? Most people I know consider That's It, That's All a better movie, and it came first. Shouldn't we be putting that on a pedestal instead of Art of Flight?

Either way, who the fuck cares? It will be what it will be, no point in over hyping something that we don't really know much about. The skiing will be sick, that is all we really need to know for now.

I feel like TAOF was too much of a "we had a ridiculously hard time getting here" and "this other place we went was so intense" and focused way to much on the dangers that they had to go through and troubles of getting to the locations than the actual snowboarding.

Don't get me wrong it was an amazing movie, but I do agree that there are better ones out there based simply on the fact that they focused more on the snowboarding and less on the backstory of the shots.

The guy(s?) producing Kandide Kamera has way more artistic sense than Curt Morgan & BF, phantom cams be damned.

To my knowledge Brain Farm owns a refurbished Phantom Gold. I'm not sure what frame rate they shot Art of Flight at, but based on the lighting it looks like everything is under 500 fps, which is getting into RED capability range. TGR has a RED Epic, which can shoot 300 fps, so they're certainly getting closer to having similar camera (body) capabilities. As for the rest of the production value, that's another story.

frame rate hardly means anything when it comes to the production value of brain farm.

The big thing they have is a cineflex14V (or something like that) the cineflex as the option of a focal length of like 200mm to 1000mm. Insane zoom lens. The came is stabilized by a giroscope and can be attached to anything, but was usually on a heli. That camera costs 660k and i believe i read somewhere they paid off about 1/2 of that in 5 months of renting/doing specific jobs with it.

Hardly, I think you are seriously underestimating the talents of Morgan and Co. For those of you who don't know, the community project came before TITA, and it blew people away even without the super nice equipment available in the latter two movies

also, whoever made this thread, you're so god damned dumb it's not even funny. comparing candid kamera to the art of flight? he had already planned on making this before art of flight, and it was influenced by that's it that's all. to all the kids who didn't catch this- you're all fucking stupid also.

brain farm owns all of their shit.

also these tools are already implemented in ski movies today. simon dumont cubed pipe shoot had 1 cineflex, 1 phantom, 2 red epics, and an ag-af100. redbull owns all of this and really contributes to the ski world with such awesome equipment. at the x games, redbull sent about 8 people armed with veri-cams, epics, and professional sound men to film every event (including skiing).

damn dude you know a lot about stuff, you must be really smart and in the ski industry right?still waiting on that orange name i see

ahh, Oakley's Community Project, another huge budget movie with super pros. Nothing special about the film making at all, just point the camera at the best snowboarders in the world. Same angles, same style as every other snowboard movie.

I was around at one of spots where art of flight was being filmed and met the photographer in a cable car from what i saw there was defiantly not 8-10 angles, just saying....

one of the guys in Kandide Kamera was involved with TITA and he most definitely was hanging out of a heli with a giro mounted camera shooting candide hitting pillow lines made out of 30-50ft pillows.

They definitely DIDNT have 10 angles, ever. But they definitely had a Gopro, cineflex, phantom long lens and a pani varicam too. Maybe 5 angles at the most, including a helmet cam, not that unreasonable. 2 angles is barely enough in more situations.

Let's not compare it to Art of Flight please.

If it's anything like any of Candide's previous movies, it's going to be one the best ski movies ever made, and that's all that matters.

as someone who is not into cinematography, give me quality riding over quality camera work. shit's gettin overdone nowadays. sick shit is sick shit whether gopro or bajillion dollar hollywood equipment
