Candide on new skis

Looks like Season but that pairing doesn't make much sense to me, Season already has a skiing legend/ski shaper to base a brand around. My guess he is starting his own brand, but I have no idea. Either way those rocker lines/tip splay look wild

Marker bindings??

He's always been on Jesters. Would've expected Pivots for sure for a guy like him, but I guess he likes his gear light like his tootpick skis from his Faction days.

The jesters are good bindings imo. Been on em for like 10 years and never broke a pair. It's the griffins and squires that suck

You’re right, he’s definitely not core enough

I'd love to go back and try Jesters/Griffs one day. I had a false-step in issue that cost me a few runs on my last day at Whistler once which really turned me off to Markers. That was a while ago though before the Royal family got a slight design refresh, hence why I'm willing to give them another try. I had no issues otherwise, but my Attacks are treating me just fine at the moment.

Normal people don't play the binding fashion show game.

As a non-industry head w/ former experience with this kinda stuff... I'd imagine:

Candide Skis from Faction carried a heavy royalty (~$50 a pair) that had both a minimum and a cap. Now, whenever that re-upped deal was inked (assuming with someone like him, probs locked in for 4-5 yrs), the Candide 1.0 and 2.0 carried serious volume in the marketplace, 3.0 doing dece, and 4.0 + 5.0 hitting minimums. This predated the prevalence of the Prodigy line -- and industry in general seeing how friggin sweet directional twins are. I imagine he was hitting those caps.

Sales dropped, (see prodigy above), but Candide is still Candide, so how do you justify that paycheck when it can't be subsidized through royalties? Answer: you don't.

The play instead is to create an actual sub brand vs. franchise -- as that franchise won't ever see full mktg + sales focus.

So, most likely, it's a sub-brand co-owned by Candide and his managers and Full Stack. Create pinnacle, Candide driven product, marketed by that team with distro through same Faction outlets.

TL;DR: No, he's not on season. Yes it's a new brand, but likely not a new company. Candide will continue to make Candide Skis, Mana franchise will be phased out in 2 years if Candide Skis can prove to support themselves. Also, we're going to see more Candide content, because...now he's actually gotta market his shit.

oh and the SPK will be back for Fall 23.

Dear candide, we miss you, please come back from whatever planet you call home and make one of these days 3. Thanks!

Dude, we're waiting on OOTD 4

Josh Malczyk from Season Equipment reposted that photo from Candide in his Instagram stories yesterday.

He added the text: "Genepy des Alpes".

Genepy is a type of traditional herb liqueur.

Anyway, pretty sure Candide will get his own ski / line at Season then right?

Could imagine the Season Equipment move for Candide as the Amer Sports(Atomic/Salomon) factory that’s currently building their designs is the same as where Faction skis have been produced since the 21/22 lines.

Could you imagine Candide and Pollard collaborating on ski design?

I'm still skeptical, but I'd love to see it happen

[tag=422]@Malczyk[/tag] [tag=275298]@season_eqpt[/tag] what do you have to say about this?

With Season having their “first gen” sale right now, it leads me to believe that the second gen will have input from someone new. I’m about to turn my fleet into all Season, my Aero’s rip.

Partially, Nidecker, Pollard and Austin also have ownership

Really Nidecker as well? Those brothers do it all.. Still waiting for them to also launch an XV brand for Xavier..

Back to Season: So Nidecker, Evo, Pollard, Austin and Malczyk are the owners? Nidecker builts them, invested in molds etc and taken up a part of the company? Evo put in money to start up etc? Would love to hear more about this.. Very cool..

Could also still be Candide starts own brand with Nidecker..
