Why in the fuck are Canada goose jackets becoming a trendy thing to wear among the basic white teenage girl? They're a coat made for arctic climates and outdoor weather extremes. Not to mention the prices range from $500-10,000 and it seems like every second girl is wearing them out to starbucks in Nova Scotias 14dc weather. Does anyone else find this trend absolutely retatded?
 
Pretty much almost every girl wears one here at Carleton Uni, in Ottawa, and I think about every middle eastern male wears them as well, which CU is full of
 
id wear one if i had the dough. Heard they are damn warm and moving close to the arctic circle has made all my other jacket seem like pussy shit
 
haha yea. it really is girls and brown males who wear them in Ottawa.

crazy that people will drop 800 bucks on a jacket they barely use except to get to and from the bus/their car in the morning and evening.
 
Canada Goose and Woolrich have been quite popular for the last few years here in the Netherlands.Besides the hype and fashion statement, it's easy to understand why: they are bloody comfy. It's like you are wearing your goose feather duvet in a socially acceptable way. They are also made from rugged fabrics, last for years and you can go out in weather colder than a witch's tit wearing nothing underneath them.

Over here they are bloody expensive though, a lot of people walk around in knock-off's, since a CG Chateau is 900 dollars and the Woolrich Arctic Parka is over a 1000 dollars.
 
why not? they make high quality gear.

that's like saying you are not allowed to wear Armada if you don't ski in the park or you can't wear Arcteryx if you're not venturing deep into the backcountry.
 
haha it like doesnt get cold in nova scotia. almost gets as little snow as vancouver. Like even south of it in the states places like maine and vermont are wayy colder. The gulf stream runs right by it.
 
when i was in toronto everyone had them. looks like they're making their way south of the border now, lammmmmmmmme

Although our Woolrich is slightly different, in Europe we have Woolrich John Rich & Bros which is owned by the Italian WP Lavori and our stuff has a more Italian slimmer fit and is made in the U.S. (not sure about that one)
 
I bet most people only buy one to show they have 800$ to spend on a coat. I'd bet that if they were the same quality but worth let say 250$, we would see less.
 
Because fashion trends, and girls like flaunting expensive things...Why is lulu lemon so popular.... expensive.
 
the thing is, most people who buy them dont buy them for the practicality or actual warmth of the coat. in the case of brown dudes and white chicks (ie the majority of Canada Gooses market) theyre buying them as a fashion thing / to fit in. which makes it even more sad that theyre willing to shell out hundreds and hundreds of dollars. even though the coats may be worth that based on their functionality alone, thats not the real reason I think most people are buying them. just an added bonus i guess?
 
It's beyond me why anyone wants one in the Netherlands, where it rarely get's colder than -6c/20f. When somebody wears I immediately tend to think badly of them. No way anyone needs on here. Besides, they're WAY overpriced for how warm they are.

I don't know anyone who has one. Only ordi's, foute ballen en Marokanen wear them as far as I've seen.

 
Hey I have a parka and it's probably the best constructed jacket I've ever had. It's complete overkill for most/all of the time especially if you are used to the cold like most Canadians but I got mine for free so I'm not complaining. They're not worth 800 if you're getting it as a fashion piece for the next 3 years but the jacket will probably last the rest of your life and not really go that out of style considering winter fashions don't change much over the years.
 
Makes my TNF Mcmurdo parka ($300) sound like a ripoff. I do use it for its intended use, which is going around town and keeping warm wearing a t shirt underneath.

 
The funny thing with Canada Goose is almost all of their stuff isn't really all that good, if you're looking at a technical/warmth perspective. It is popular because 1) it's expensive 2) fashionable "expedition-esque" clothing 3) made in Canada and 4) popular because it's popular.

Buying something to "look good" is all in the game, and totally fine. But spending top dollar for sub-700 fill power down is perhaps a bit misguided. More power to college gals if they want to wear them though.
 
should i buy a woolrich jacket (either the arctic or mountain parka) in the states before i go to copenhagen in the fall for the semester?
 
just get a fucking carhartt and a sweatshirt like the rest of mankind...works just as well for little to nothing compared to some silly expensive coat

you still don't need down. There are some people working/exploring in the coldest places on earth who might need that stuff to survive. Saskatoon is not one of those places.
 
except their jackets are actually really good (the high end ones anyways). there's a reason they're used by the US Antarctic program and the Canadian Rangers and I'm sure many other Antarctic/Arctic expedition/programs.
 
Celsius. To be fair, it didn't end up getting quite that cold on that day, but it was still -50's with the windchill.

Generally I agree though. Most people don't need that kind of jacket, even in Saskatchewan.
 
Those jackets have been getting so popular here. God knows why someone would need one of those in Rhode Island when the lowest temperature we get is like 10 degrees, but dumb rich college kids like anything expensive i guess
