Can you turn old alpine bindings into frame bindings?

I’m envisioning bolting a hinge on the front and a latch on the back, but in order to make that durable it would also be very heavy. I am wondering if there is a way that would save on weight.

They were heavy, didn't walk very well, and apparently they screwed up the flex of the ski, but they sorta worked.
