Can you do too much waterproofing?

If you get the waterproofing spray on the inside you can mess up the breathability so be careful to only spray the outer layer.
in theory there is a limit to how much waterproofing you can do as it works by filling the gaps between the fibres and at the point of filling all the gaps you’re likely changing what the material looks like, making it shiny or at least glossy looking.

Nikwax stuff works best on a clean jacket. So I say use the wash stuff first. See how that works, if water beads up than your good. If not apply the Nikwax.
