So i am really looking into getting some hell-bents for my pow stick next year

my question is are they terrible AT skis?

i dont AT a TON but i prolly do it about 5-10 times a year and would want them form the ski down but are they not worth it for the hike up

i am also thinking about just getting them for resort pow skiing and just still using my old JJs for ATing because they work so well,

But once again if anyone has tried ATing on the bents let me know who it went

thanks guys

I know people who tour with Bents and while they work OK, they are not ideal. If you are always going up a soft, flat skin track you'll be fine, though once you get into any side hill stuff or steep climbing you have very little contact area and will have a tough time

A bunch of my friends do it from Montana, some on 179s, but most of them on 189's. Obviously it weighs more than a touring ski, but the benefits are that much sicker when you get the goods.

you can do it but why. hellbents are sweet skis but they're way to soft for touring. if youre looking for a rockered ski for AT look into the obsethed.

As long as you don't have little chicken legs, it works fine. One friend rocks the 89's weights a buck fifty and still beats most everybody up.

I used to think that, but now I am using skis with a 110mm waist for touring and like them way more than anything else I have been on. JP's would be pretty sweet though, just throw whatever AT bindings you have on them (or get some used ones) and you'd have a super sick setup for how often you are going out.

As far as touring on hellbents goes, I think it would suck. Unless you're breaking trail or only going up mellow terrain they aren't going to be much fun. It's not the weight that would bother me as much as having something that big and awkward with such a little contact patch with the snow. On a well-worn (or moderately, for that matter) you'd probably be just as well off skinning up on snowlerblades with your skis on your back. Something with only tip rocker, on the other hand, is an entirely different story...

i dont know about you, but im pumped for the new trab touring binding

dynafit compatabile toes, lateral release, alpine heal, and din to 14

cant wait

oh and like 560g

thanks a lot for the input guys

i think ill just keep using my old JJs for touring cause they are fairly light and still way fun in the pow and if i do end up getting the bents ill just rock them on sled/resort pow days

thanks a lot for the help again guys

i will def wait for some others (mags) to review them before purchasing. not sure what id mount em on either. id also wait until the at dalbello boot came out.

i have them and i love them!!!!! they are so sick for deep days, huge nose and tail presses and even hitting the park with with them... but i would NOT get them if you plan on AT skiing with them.... because of the ENORMOUS rocker and they are a bit heavy but deff get them if you plan on just skiing at the resorts and some back-country
