Can we talk about misogyny and male entitlement?

It's nothing new, but the UCSB killings have unsurprisingly generated a fair amount of press.

If you're not really clear on what that is, let me know, and I'd be glad to provide you with some articles on the subject.

I've been pleasantly and unpleasantly surprised by NS in relation to LGBTQ issues (Brock's thread was the latter), so we'll see what happens with gender ones. What are everybody's thoughts?

I'll start by saying that I'm entitled, and both constantly and consciously aware of it. Changing is a long process that is far from over for me.

the reason I hate all these arguments is because of the way people refer to themselves. if you want everyone to be equal, why isolate yourself into a group?

Being equal and being identical aren't the same thing.

oh my allah another politically correct bullshit thread.

Women have equal rights and equal opportunity( more women go to college then men) can we move on?

Women go to college in higher numbers because it's required for us to even get entry level in a job that a man can get without a college education.

The glass ceiling still exists, and while the two subjects are linked, this isn't what the thread's about.

This is complete and total bullshit do you have any scientific studies that say this? No? that is what I thought.

Education requirements for jobs are almost always clearly listed in the job description, do they say women: phd required, men: high school dropouts desired, no.

If she wants to find one to back up what she said she's welcome to, but this is still not the point of this thread, and the glass ceiling still does exist once you've gotten the job, regardless of whether there's inequity in necessary qualifications.

When I get home I'll be more than happy to provide the statistics and articles on it.

That being said, your changes of being hired are still elevated being of the male gender.

if people have issues with you because of your background, thats their problem not yours.

Then what is the point of this thread? To meaninglessly talk about how men should blow down quit their jobs and give them to women?

I respect your thread derail attempts because I know your reading comprehension isn't really this poor, but it's actually about respecting them, not objectifying them, and treating them as equals instead of people that owe males attention and sex.

Op, how should we fix misogyny?

A simple starting point would be to remove the constant objectification of women from the wide majority of culture, but it won't be a short process. As somebody of African descent, I'm sure you can identify with a what's a moderately similar plight to your race's.

from what I've seen that kid was pretty messed up mentally. i don't think entitlement was to blame, he was just a nut ball.

The law varies greatly here, but there's laws that state consent cannot be given while intoxicated in some places.

The memes are too easy. Obviously they're incredibly stupid, and obviously they're as stereotypical a depiction of feminists as one can find.

No, no, and no. This is not feminism, feminism is equal rights for everyone.

I have been trying to get a job that requires manual labor for three years now, no one will hire me because they look at me as weak and fragile. I am willing to do whatever it takes to make a decent wage.

I know , but it still pissed me off to see people with fucking rape charges because of drunken sex ,

rape is no joke and girls always get away with it.

Oh, he definitely was, but the way that he targeted his anger was clearly influenced by misogyny.

SFB, I forgot to quote you, but here:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/misogyny

"hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women"

People of the world will never be on the same page entirely. I like to think the majority of humans on this earth have half decent values enough to know not everyone will share the same moral code.

I think the hardest thing about the gender debate is that women, although embracing the independent woman shtick, still embrace the brawny, self sufficient, care giver of a man which in turn confuses the whole argument. You want to be independent, but you also want everything taken care of.

And for the record, that kid who did the shooting was a product of his environment

I swear some parents these days just see their kids as accessories.

Just like all men aren't misogynist pricks, not all women are batshit crazy. All it takes is mutual respect and the ability to put on someone else's shoes.

I will say this though, there's no denying the feminine form is 1000x more beautiful than the male form. Men are objectified too, though not to the scale of women because women are prettier. Not saying it's ok, I'm just saying sex sells and 99% of men aren't sexy. Stopping objectification of women in media doesn't start with men saying "This is wrong, I won't buy this." It starts with women as a group saying, "This is wrong, I won't be part of this."

I need deodorant people. If AXE smells best, I'm going to buy it. Scantily clad ladies aside.

They look at you like youre weak and fragile because you are weak and fragile. It takes a superior man brain to see it though

The first part of what you're saying is a product of the gender binarism; it damages all parties involved. That's another massive and loaded discussion for another thread.

I don't disagree with you on the latter half of this, but I think it provides a useful point off which to base a discussion.

I'm personally against all objectification, although as I said, I'd be lying if I didn't enjoy it and I'm working to reduce my susceptibility. Reductionism like that is harmful to society and the individuals involved, though.

I'm definitely not denying that but I've heard he was fabricating relationships and such. i think people have gotten really caught up in the "virgin killer" angle and haven't paid enough attention to the fact that he was just really messed up.

To much bitching, not enough problem fixing. Not saying there is a problem. By sighting this shit you create the problem.

Please elaborate how pointing out the existence of misogyny and male entitlement creates them.

You perpetuate the idea. You keep it going. If it had ended, and you are still there complaining about the problem, it's like it never went away.

The thing is, it's not ended. It doesn't just end itself.

Not if you continue to say there's a problem.

It's like when people say we have a black president..... false we have the 44th president. By saying he is black you perpetuate the idea that he is different. The same concept applies here.

If you want a manual labor job go to a temp service and work manual labor, and if you work hard someone will hire you on.

I get what you're trying to say, but you're wrong. When there's obvious signs of misogyny and male entitlement almost everywhere on the internet and spread virulently throughout popular Western culture, there's still a problem. Just like there is still racial inequality in America. You're basically trying to make something staring you in the face go away by looking to the side and pretending it isn't there.

as long as everyone is entitled to their own opinion and personal thoughts, things like misogyny, racism, ect will exist. so in other words, it is never going away entirely.

You're right. Still, that doesn't mean it can't be reduced; the fact that it's so currently common is largely due to media depictions, something that can be changed with work.

I think all women should get concealed carry permits with their drivers licences. Obviously, being female, all women hit like girls. Let's give them a chance.

But in all seriousness, it is funny the double standard that exists with women and violence. I knew this chick once, she could fucking brawl, usually so hard she would glass jaw fools that would talk enough shit, and sometimes even gnarlier. I know dudes guilty of the same violent offenses, however, when I empathize for my friend, everyone's reaction is usually "sounds like that bitch is crazy" and when stories of fighting about dudes are brought up, they are met with a great deal more tolerance. At least chicks are getting bigger in MMA.

Are women deployed into combat in the military nowadays?
