Can we split gear talk yet?

TOAST.

I used to go into gear talk all of the time but I noticed recently I stopped because most of the threads are fashion advice. So can we please split it into hardgoods and softgoods. Or gear talk and "does this jibberish go good with my purse thread".

Tell you what, why don't we just have a thousand forums, each for each individual possible topic of discussion that never get used.

In answer to your question, no. We will not be doing that. Our goal is to have as few forums as reasonably possible, not to proliferate them. IMO, I have been thinking about eliminating gear talk completely and having that stuff just go to SG, and eliminating M&A and having its content go to SG or NSG depending on whether it's ski related. I don't think un-splitting WTB and Sell/Trade will work, or I'd be on that tip too.

More forums is inherently a bad thing.

There are forums that rip the shit out of these that would respectfully disagree.

Having Gear Talk go into SG would be the height of faggotry, and make these forums an even larger convoluted pile of dog squeeze than adding sub forums.

BTW, what's with mods having such shitty donator levels?

i disagree with everything you just said.

Splitting gear talk wouldnt be bad at all. putting M&A in SG or NSG would be fucking retarded. I dont give a fuck about B/S T but i think its working fine right now. its not like we have a shit ton of forums right now either. probably the fewest of any site/forum i visit.

this is such a terrible terrible idea. honestly, get rid of media and arts when there are thriving photographers and videographers who use that section to get advice and hone their skills? take a look at some of those threads. the artwork thread? what a great way for these members to display their skills and get feedback. yeah, squash that section. real smart. stick it in nsg so all good content disappears.

putting gear talk in sg? do you honestly work for this site? cause your suggestions would be the fall of this site. it's the best idea to split gear talk into different sections. you have issues with taking ideas and blowing them way out of proportion. "a thousand forums"? they wanted to split one into two, and it totally makes sense.

"we will not be doing that" - pretty sure you're not red. "i have been thinking about eliminating gear talk..." lolz

more forums are not inherently a bad thing. your thinking is really off and not better for the site.

X2. We should have a third section titled (what gear should I buy) cause half the people here don't feel like searching up reviews and chat about equipment to make an educated decision as to what would be best for themselves too....

It's fine how it is now. More forums for specific bullshit is silly, just scroll past. It's not that bad.

WTB is a great example of a waste of space. No one uses that shit, should have stayed the way it was.

Basically every other forum on the internet has significantly more subforums than newschoolers.

That being said, splitting geartalk is pointless. Newschoolers will be newschoolers. The fashion talk forum will get all the traffic, and kids with legitimate ski questions will get ignored.

Splitting b/s/t on the other hand....

I'm for a tagging system and active filtered views for Sell/Trade, but I lack the knowledge to code such a thing... does something like that even exist?

meh i dunno, i don't give a rats ass about outerwear threads, only hard good threads get me hard !

:)

in short, if we split hard and soft goods, imho hard goods will definately get traffic, for me personally i'd even fear more about getting no traffic in soft goods ....

TGR has a ton of sub forums. It's about as simple to navigate as it gets. Look at PBnation.com. Sub forums out the ass. Thats just 2 sites. Why is it such a hard thing to contemplate here?

Just make a new forum and call it "Trend whoring". then anyone who has a Jiberish thread they need to start, or a "waht suit should I get?" question will have a place to stroke each other off about wich 10k coat with horizontal block graphics look the best.

i disagree, i think it would be the opposite. kids looking for what to wear or asking if they can look like wallisch will get ignored while the others get their questions answered.

just posting to say you are completely wrong and so full of shit. that is all.

:)

if there were more forums they would get less use, keep em together and keep it active!

i dont like the division of buy and sell though that was kinda stupid...

this.

media and arts is like my break from trolling and kids asking questions about their outerwear.
