Can touring boots withstand tricks and jumping?

Can touring boots be used in the park or will the walk mode switch be damaged if you fall on a jump? And the same in powder, if you do a loafty 3 and fall, can the boot be damaged?

Kinda depends on the boot, really... Most of the boots coming out now are all super fucking light plastic that gets chewed to bits, and they will get destroyed in the park... A few models do okay though...

I always liked the K2 Pinnacles because they had a somewhat easily replaced walk mode if it broke, and they were made out of a traditional polyurethane, so they fit perfect as a jack of all trades kinda thing.

I have been in the Cochise for the last few years, which are made out of PU as well, but also Polyether in the cuff, which is a good material for it.. and that's been acceptable for the occasional park sesh... Theyre kinda going out on me, but theyve had hundreds of days and long tours so theyve done incredibly well for what Ive put them through...

I think it depends on who you are, if you're the type of guy who routinely destroys skis in one season, breaks bindings etc. then yeah, you can explode a touring boot no problem. But if you're just cruising and taking mellow park laps, boosting some 3s here and there, you're probably good to go.

Thanks for the answers! I think I will stick to my alpine boots in the park, and I will use my touring boots only on tours.

I've put over 200 days of abuse on my Lupo Carbons with zero issues. I'm only 160lbs but ski very aggressively and jump off everything I can all over the mountain. BC, inbounds thrashing, park, backyard rails, etc.

Just one data point but I trust them.

I've broke a shit on my Lupo 130 after 50 days or less. I'm 160lb too. Broke the walk mode lever, The middle buckle cable twice, a couple of buckles and the plastic on the soles are sooo soft they have so many nicks on the toe binding interface. I have only tried a couple other touring boots but I kinda hate touring boots for anything but skinning. They just feel so sloppy compared to my race boots I ski resort and park in.

Depends, If you have really lite bc boots like scarpas then no, but if you have heavier combo boots like the Salomon Shift Pros or K2 Mindbenders your fine, just look at what Stan Rey does with the Shift Pros.

I kept murdering the walk switches on my Lupos so I got a pair of Il Moros. Otherwise zero issues and some people just used the upper cuff from a krypton when skiing a resort to circumvent the need for a walk switch. I didn't feel like dealing with tools every time I went touring so I just got the second pair of boots.

I disagree with this entirely lol. Ive seen my fair share of broken mindbender walk modes even during a very very lean season here... As for shift pros, I havent had as much experience trying to fix them, but they will get chewed to shit on the toe and heel, so just be acutely aware of that.

Stan Rey also gets a new pair of boots whenever the hell he wants. just cuz pros do gnarly shit on touring boots doesn't they are durable enough to withstand consistent gnarly shit

From one season on the nordica stryders I can say they hold up to quite a bit of hard riding. I skied over 100 days last season (touring, inbounds cliff drops, but mostly park laps) and they're still fine. I'd say they are pretty close to the same stiffness of a regular nordica 130 flex even though they're touring boots. As a reference you can look at magnus and lupe who ride stryders in the park too.

Blew my achilles tendon out in March in a pair of Lange XT 140s casual pow/mini cliff paired with a pivot 18 and J friends. my advice would be to pair up a flexible ski with touring boots and ride your Dins lower than your charging boots. Touring boots flex so damn easy... those XT 140s are great, but keep in mind they flex more like a 120. I prefer riding the slacker ski from J when on a touring boot because it is a much softer ski and more early rise in the tip so if i overflexed forward again, I would transfer more power into the ski rather than overflexing my boot.

Other than that, I hit all sorts of BC jumps in that XT 140 and loved it for that! the lighter swing weight of that boot made tricks easier and also throwing a zipfit liner inside made it ski much more like a downhill boot.

Im also 6'1 and 185lbs.

I beat the piss out of my Maestrales in the park all season and never broke anything on them. Depends on how hard you ski but I’ve gone through like 8 pairs of boots in the last 4 years and those things were doing so much more than they were intended to do but held up awesome
