Can the weight of the growing population have a negative effect?

so, this is what happens when i get really high, i think of irrelevant shit like this;
Can the weight of the growing population have a negative effect on Earth? I do not mean the obesity problem, I mean the fact that in 1750 there were only about 791 million people who distributed about 54,776 million kg on the face of the earth. Move to 2008 and there were 6,707 million people who distributed about 464,459.75 million kg on the face of the earth. With current estimations, we are set to hit 9,746 million people by 2150. By my rough estimation that's 674,910.5 million kg distributed over the face of the earth. So over the course of 300 years, human beings procreating have added close to 620,134.5 million kg of weight to this planet. I know there is alot more to be taken into consideration, but this is just how my simple mind works right now. Does this seem fucked to anyone else? Thoughts, criticism, and the usual NS bashing are welcome. I got most of my information from wikipedia census pages, and did all the math with a calculator when I was very high, so forgive me if there are mistakes.

all the matterthat went into making those humans was already on the planet, its just being organized differently (into a human) so the total mass of the earth isn't really changing

Human population and their weight dont make much of a difference because the plannet is significantly higher.

What I wondered was: can we shift the rotation of the earth if all the cars in the world would drive in one direction

There is a giant mistake in that you need to take a elementary science class.

The mass of system cannot change. There is no additional weight on the earth because the population has used things that are on the earth. You think people just materialize? they eat food which comes from water, nitrogen, and sunlight for the most part.

Not only that but this is such a minimal amount of weight on the crust in general it makes me feel like an idiot just explaining it to you. Imagine a steel beam 5 feet thick and 20 feet long going across a gap. Now imagine a person being equivalent to an ant. Now add as many ants as you think it will take to deform the beam. It would be a tower of ants miles upon miles high. And the earth is not a steel beam it is much more stable.

So basically stop smoking weed it is making you a fool.

or what if the entire world population gathered with all their belongings in some desert, could we throw off the earths rotation?

did i ask you to explain it to me mr. science guy? no. I just had a quick thought, fucked around with some numbers, and came up with what I thought was an interesting and slightly entertaining question. Sorry for wasting your time.

earth weigh aprox. = 1.3 X 10^25

Number of cars = 600 million

Avg weight of car = 2,500 lbs

All cars weight = 1.5 X 10^12

Now I could find the rotational momentum of the earth, calculate the diameter of the earth and find the torque that all cars on the earth would create and see the change but remember all the cars accelerating would have to stop making the net gain of the system 0. Not to mention the cars are 1.15 X 10 ^-13 the mas of the earth. A particle of dust running into you would make more of an effect.

So will it have an effect? Yes it would but it would be unmeasurable.

damn, and i really thought i was going somewhere with this. Oh well, the nobel will have to wait for me...
and stop calling me a fool on the internet, it hurts.

just when i think you can't get any dumber, you pull something like this....and totally redeem yourself.
sorry, your post just reminded me of the other d+d thread. but seriously, why so serious?
this thread was meant for random high thoughts, not straight science lessons, have a little fun why don't you? like the other guy that wants to change the rotation of the earth, i like where his heads at. you, eh, not so much.

Well, all the resources needed, and anyway, i forget which one it is (Possilby Papau New Guinea) but there is an island in the south pacific that will be Gone due to rising waters from global warming i believe

hey if I was high I would be right there with you. However I am bitter at work and I had google and a calculator sitting right in front of me. If you are going to contemplate scientific things think about some facts like this.

More unique information and human knowledge was created in the last two years than in all of the rest of human existence combined.

Using Moores law, in the year 2035 $1,000 dollars of computing will be more powerful than all the human brains on earth combined.

Someone living right now will live to be 200 years old.

Death is a genetic disorder that can be corrected.

Or find that picture of the earth compared to other celestial bodies.

now i like where this is going, those are some interesting things to ponder. You may get a laugh out of this, but the other day I was just pondering evolution and all that jazz and I thought of this; If we evolved from primates like some believe, how did our brains become so much more advanced? And then it hit me, primate savants. No? Yes? Maybe? haha, you should get a kick out of that.

I saw a presentation on TED where they were talking about creating human body parts such as eyes, and how with recent advances there is a good chance that within the next 5 years people who need to get said body parts replaced will actually have greater abilities than those of us with our born parts. Nuts huh?

well if you think about it what we eat isn't adding weight, it is simpling exchanging it over to our bodies for example there is a chicken that weighs 10 pounds and you eat that whole thing you are simply moving the weight into your stomach which you will eventually shit out. its all one big circle.

Ya man I think about this all the time. Some scientist and futurist call it the "singularity" or the moment when humans merge with computers.

The possibilities really are endless at that point. Just for example imagine being able to connect with sensors all over your body that constantly update a 3d image of your surrounding by infrared or radar. Or communicate instantly with anyone one the planet via wi fi with out talking.

let your mind wander I gotta get some fucking work done.

ok so what would happen if in the year 2050 an entire civilization of aliens (quadruple our size) peacefully decided to migrate to our planet? assuming that they brought their own food, drinks, supplies and futuristic housing that would prevent overpopulation

I wish my Physics Professor wasn't a quirky old Indian dude and I had the balls to ask him the car question. With that said, I am off to my 5:45 physics lecture.

no. But based on your contribution, I am going to safely assume that you find yourself surrounded by them frequently. You can get help, and as much as the other kids hassle you about it, the special education classes are a good place to learn. Keep up the hard work! Jokes, but seriously.

then we would have to learn to live with peacfull aliens 4 times our size... Do you think something would happen? its not as if we would break free from the sun and float into deep space where all life on earth would die.

The combined mass of every human is so tiny compared to the mass of the earth. This thread was really stupid, but at least it seemed innocent.
