i have a old olympus film SLR camera and when the shutter opened it just stayed open and i am not quite sure on how to get it closed again.
sidenote: i had shutter speed at 500 and aperture at 5.6 if thats of any help

Shutter or lens cover? If its the shutter you have to carefully remove your lens and use a small pin to unlock it. Make sure you are in a room that isn't dusty and has little air movement.

well i am not sure, by lens cover do you mean lens cap?
but I am pretty sure its the shutter because when i took the shot it just stayed open. It also may just be the mirror. what i see on the inside is a black and white pixelated screen type thing.

THAT HAPPENED TO MY CAMERA. The OM series? I brought it to my friends dad who is a amateur photographer and he said the spring got old and is catching or is broken. So he told me i could get it fixed, but he would suggest just getting a new digital SLR. He thought the camera was so old and that film was out of date, it would cost more to fix then the camera is actually worth. This was 3 months ago and I have had my E520 for 2 months now and I love it. I hope that helped.
