Can someone explain what WTR is in bindings and boots

Walk to Ride. It is a type of boot sole. Alpine bindings that have a WTR feature are compatible with either standard alpine soles and also WTR soles. A lot of alpine-touring (pin style) boots are WTR compatible.

There are WTR, GripWalk, boots which have a sole that looks a little bit like a mashup of a hiking boot and a ski boot. On the binding side you'll sometime see WTR or GripWalk and also MNC (multi norm compatible) which means they'll work with multiple DIN sole types, I think Look's are labeled AW and Tyrolia has AT, which are also good with some but not all boot types...honestly it's a bit of a rabbithole right now. If you have a specific question ask away, otherwise get prepared to do a lot of reading on boot/binding tech.
Most bindings on the market are wtr or grip walk compatible today and especially by next season. Many boot manufacturers have switched to these soles. However touring soles (different ISO number) are not usually compatible with wtr or grip walk bindings so if you are unsure go into your local shop and ask about the setup to make sure it will work or that you can possibly swap the soles out.

GripWalk is a standard used by marker/dalbello/volkl and is technically not compatible with WTR. I've seen people jam Dalbello lupo ti's with gripwalk soles into marker bindings that are not grip walk compatible (Jester pro's in this instance) and even when I lowered the afd on my Jester pro's all the way, my Dalbello lupo AX's didn't fit right, and actually ate away at the plastic a little. I currently run alpine soles on my Lupo AX's, and fit them to FKS 180's and couldn't have made a better choice. I can use my boots in my kingpins and have only ejected out of my FKS's when I needed to. It's an overly complicated system, and no one wants to agree to a standard, so be careful what boots you're matching to what bindings, and consult a shop (or ask in this thread) about specific gear combos.

Haha, Same setup man, unfortunately dalbello was kinda annoying last year when I got my boots and didnt get the new soles until april so was stuck using my one pair of sticks w grip walk bindings I find even w the new soles the boot still doesnt sit as flat as a normal alpine sole (im not 100% it is but forget what the packaging said). If anything gripwalk,wtr etc makes it a pain as a tech on my end because now instead of just checking toe height I like to double check the books just to make sure all the insurance policies will back me up.

Yeah I waited for like 2 months for mine and the shop owner ended up giving me his slightly used ones so I could get them before I went back to school out of the country where shops can’t even order parts directly from dalbello. Blew up my walk mode switches because the silver part thats made of stamped steal has major weak points in the corners. I made a CAD file for a beefier one if anyone has access to a metal shop and uses Lupos with the orange and silver walk switches. I’ll send the google drive file to whoever pm’s me.
