I think so. Ive been best friends with the same girl since 5th grade, neither of us have ever had any romantic inclinations, and I do not foresee it happening anytime in the future. Maybe thats an isolated case though haha

I was happy being just friends with a girl in high school but we became best friends and realized we both had strong feelings and now we've been dating for 4 years. I think it's different for every situation and depends on how close the friendship is. If ideally your partner is your best friend, then it's a logical progression to go from being friends to developing feelings. But I have a couple female friends who i've known closely since like 6th grade and there have never been any visible feelings, but we aren't nearly as close as I was with my girlfriend before we started dating

A few of my best friends are women, but all of them are also dating other friends of mine. I've definitely noticed that unless a girl has a boyfriend, they seem to generally think we need to become romantically involved, which is super annoying. So far, my solution has been to maintain emotional distance with pretty much any and all female acquaintances.

I think most people tend to think that they need to be paired up, so the natural tendency is to gravitate toward relationships, even if they're obviously a bad idea. Our species is a lonely-feeling one.
