Can college be difficult?

I start college in about a week. I am for the most part trying to wind down on summer activities like staying up late every night, drinking, smoking, womens, ect. I am worried about being able to make time to study and learn things like calculus. I'm taking 15 hours between monday and thursday. Do I need to worry about buckling down to handle the first semester. I'm living at home the first semester which I guess helps.

My classes are

calc 1

english 1

poly sci

chem 1(my major, I got a 5 on the ap exam so im not worried about chem)

and some liberal studies course about the philosophy of science.

some slow down for college

some kick it up a gear

you just have decide if you wanna learn anything or just blow you loan money

its all about balance, your first semester might be a shit show since your away from home no curfew no prying eyes and tons of new friends and opportunities, if you want to you can have plenty of time to party do well and still ski... you just gotta be smart about it a touch, im sure youll be fine, calm your worries

id say be on top of your shit and life will be so much less stressful. im not saying study 6 hours a night, but like seriously get stuff done early and you will be worrying about school so much less.

also, if you fucking destroyed the AP chem exam, how come you are having to take chem 1? just curious

resort management though. not putting you down or anything, i mean, thats what i started my college career doing but slowly realized it was not for me. mainly because i felt like i wasnt getting anything out of it other than vocational training and a big list of social contacts in the industry. just depends on what you plan to do and how serious you are with it, like any major really.

to the OP though, focus on school and the fun will come out of enjoyment of doing well in classes. youre there for school, only party hard when you work hard. make it more of a reward then a lifestyle. you may end up raging harder then you ever imagined but as long as your grades are legit, its a dope combination.

i think PC (right?) is a little better place to do resort management than summit county though haha.

I was gonna make a thread like this. When I took a math placement test I got like the highest score or level or something (claim). That basically means I get to skip the easy stuff. So the calculus class I took in 12th grade transfers over and I'm pretty sure it fulfils my math requirement for my major, biochemistry. Basically, I don't need to take any more math ever if I didn't want to, but I do. They also recommend taking more math. For my first semester I would have to take analytical calculus and geometry B. I told my advisor I was going to drop that course for my first semester and pick up math later, cause that course sounds kinda difficult. It's described like this

Review of exponential and logarithmic functions; inverse trigonometric

functions; integration techniques; parametric curves; polar coordinates;

infinite series. Includes use of the computer package, Maple, to

perform symbolic, numerical and graphical analysis.

Good idea, or is college not as hard as I think it will be? Apparently my highschool had decently high standards for the students. I didn't really have to do all the homework to stay on top in grade 12, I just made sure I could solve and understand each type of problem and tried to avoid repetition to save time so I could go outside or something. We learned about exp and log functions, integration, inverse trig functions. Although I missed something important about integration of ln functions and something else from acl surgery though...

Their should be a cult/thread for stuff like this. Most of the kids I know in college aren't too smart so asking them won't yield a decent answer. Sorry for the bit of a threadjack.

yea man, how do you know dennis? he came out for a little bit. i dont know what his plans were but he bummed it on my couch and didnt even put up any dough! i gave him a job at my shop and he quit after like 2 weeks haha. couldnt handle it i guess. or maybe he didnt like the way i lived? i dont know. hes cool though.

looks like you gotta pretty easy schedule so it shouldnt be too bad but it is gonna be harder than youre expecting. take a few hours a day and make sure you do your homework and as long as you dont get behind you should be fine

im a tourism & rec major, gonna be a sophomore, i dont find it hard really, just a lot of papers you gotta write but that's mostly research and stuff you dont mind writing about. PHILOSOPHY was hard as hell for me tho

Depends on your major and how hard you want to make it on yourself. This (being your next 8 semesters at college) has already been decided though if you picked your major, as the next 4 years are almost all mapped out for you already with the exception of a handful of elective credits.

Personally I find myself failing the most because I have to work an unusual amount of hours during the school year to still have enough $

So it is tough to strike a balance financially with school. You will be too broke and not working enough hours but probably good with school, or you will not be broke, working too many hours, and neglecting school it seems.

Then you have your new found wealth to squander on a weekly or biweekly basis...

Get your parents to give you a monthly allowance so you don't have stress out over bills.

My first year of college kicked my ass real good. Take it seriously. You're gonna get sick of drinking every night by the time you're pushing 30, so why ruin your life by overdoing it now?

No offense, but this class looks like a joke. Unless you have like, 15 other hours, I don't see why you would drop it.

Huge wake up call from high school in terms of difficulty. Much more competitive, esp if your taking weed out classes your first year. I know first year chem is considered a weed out class as its a pre req for almost all science majors. Biggest advice is take first year super seriously, I know a lot of my friends went in laid back and ended with a not so great GPA. So now they have to spend the next 3 years to try and raise it to something respectable instead of just trying to maintain.
If your smart, and you actually care about your education you'll be fine. Time management is difficult but pulling all nighters was pretty common for me my first year.

Come study Design.

I have 3 50% handins Thursday, and one next week, and I'm about to throw myself out a fucking window.

college is what you make of it man, Im a double major finance and sociology and honestly it pretty easy(gona be a senior this year). If you stress it and feel like you have to study hours a night then yes it will be tough. I have gotten really good at writing papers, I can bang a 10 pagers out in a few hours, I also work best under pressure...code term for procrastination. I do about 1 or 2 all nighters (6pm-the next day when I have class 10-12am) every week or two and that is when i get my work done.

Stay on top of your stuff if you want good grades, i went from a 3.86 parting here and there to this semester about a 3.0, Easiest semester of my life, had 9 hours of classes one day and 5 hours another day. I had 3 days off plus weekends, chose not to work, smoked and drank multiple times a day, went to bed watching the morning news a few times a week, and still managed to get a 3.0

College is where you learn how you as a person work best, find what works from you and keep to it.

I became complacent with a 3.0 this semester and realized i could do exactly what i did...pretty much nothing. I need to get my graded up to maybe a 3.5 the next two semester, just a personal opinion.

good luck man, it will be the most fun 4 years of your life, don't regret anything, go into it with an open mind, and have fun

College sucks, well at least the school work part. I'm a mechanical engineering major, but probably should have done hospitality and tourism management since I'm probably gonna be a ski bum when I graduate.

i see you snuck in before reading the whole post.
youre gonna be at home, and you took ap classes, youre gonna be fine, your work loads gonna increase but not so much that you wont be able to do anything or have any fun

Because its my major and a professor recommended taking chem 1 for an easy A and just skipping the lab. I made straight As my senior year, the only reason I worry is because I have been going out a lot more lately and it has I guess brought me out of my shell to just be wilder in general.

I am really worried about nothing now that I think about it. I am mostly worried about calculus, but I know pre cal really well and I got like a 99 or 100 forthe whole class in highschool while most people were barely getting by.
