Camping Spots

Alright so now that summer is here some of my friends and I decided we'd like to go on a short road trip and some camping for 4-5 days. We were thinking that Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and the UP would all be the perfect distance away seeing as we are from right around Chicago.
The only thing is that while we are familiar with camping we don't exactly know any good places to go around there. Can anyone recommend a state park or National Forest that they know of that would be a good place to camp in Mid July?
 
Well seeing that at that time of the year if you dont camp somewhere that might have a slight breeze you might get lifted up and carried away by mosqiutos. That may or may not be a factor but always sucks when ya cant get away from it. Maybe try to find some place on the north shore north of duluth or north east of duluth towards U.P. on the lake.
 
You have a lot of good options of some really cool places.
In MN, any where on the north shore will be pretty cool, Tetegouche State Park, Temperence River, or any where on the Gunflint Trail out of Grand Marais.
Wisconsin, definitely Apostle Islands, I've gone there multiple times. You can camp in a state park on Madeline Island, or better yet rent sea kayaks and go between all the islands.
For the U.P., Porcupine Mountains, and Isle Royale, which I just got back from. It's an epic place, if your willing to do some backpacking...
Can't go wrong with any of those.
 
yeah dude, definitely try the keewenaw in da UP. places like copper harbor way the hell up there, its pretty sick.
 
Yea that's a good point with the mosquitos. Ill look out for that.
I would love to go backpacking but the only thing is that we don't have the gear for it. The majority of our gear is heavyweight stuff that we can take with us and we don't even have backpacks that would carry more than two days worth of stuff. It looks like we're gonna have to find a drive in, or close to drive in site.
Thanks for the suggestions though, I'm gonna go check some of these places out now.
