Camera with Raw Mode

I wouldn't suggest a rebel xt.

The body's on them are very week and they just feel like a throw away camera in your hand.Get Nikon like a d50 or d70,don't buy a d40 or d50 because the lenses have auto motors in them or something so you ill always need to buy a lens with an auto motor in it which will cost you a lot more.
 
you gave props to the d50 and then said dont buy a d50? and I dont know what you are talking about the XT is a great cmaera in that price range.......if he were to drop another $300 the I would suggest the XTi.......but as he said.....not a lot of money
 
Canon, i like more than Nikon...plus the frame rate is too low on the low model nikons (2.5 fps), where canons shoot 5 fps, which is pretty much perfect for skiing. 
 
Get an older Canon like 10D, it's a great camera, and has raw. I've never used a nikon, but I love Canon, so it doesn't matter.
 
Oh my bad I ment to say d80 instead of d50.

And yes your right,the xt is a great camera and all,but I would rather feel a nice solid camera rather then feel like im feeling a toy camera.
 
get a d40, i got mine a couple months ago and i love it, only $550 if you find em on sale too
 
oh, and the d50 does have an internal af motor. but you're right, the d40 does not. even then, all new nikon lenses have af motors built into the lens at reasonable prices, so unless you have old nikon lenses the d40 is still worth a look.
 
I've actually held a d70 in one hand and a xt in the other,d70s body is made out of the same shit that the d50 is.The rebel feels like plastic to me,even a few photographers I know say the same.
 
I shoot with the rebel XT with a grip, and its a great camera, i shoot everything in RAW and it has an option where you can shoot and you get a RAW and a JPEG version when you upload them. Super nice camera, I dont have any experience with Nikons though so I cant compare to the d50 etc.
 
For all you hatin' on the Canon Digital Rebel it's time to set the record stright. I've owned the Digital Rebel(predecessor to XT, XTi) for 3+ years. I gave that camera a lickin' and it keeps on tickin'. -30F to 110F, heavy snow, rain and any other of worst conditions it's not supposed to be subjected to.

For a low end DSLR it's a warrior!

Ever heard the term "you get what you pay for."?

Save yourselves some long-term aggravation and buy a Canon.
 
Uhh...I think my point was despite its' "feel" it's a very durable camera. Plus, Canon rules the world in: low-light sensors that yield low noise, AF speed, lens quality, innovation, and the list goes on.

Nikon rules the world in: cameras and glass from '80's, following Canon's lead in the DSLR market, and a consumer base that feels inadequate about their own equipment to the point of trying to convert everyone to using the same gear. These are often the same people knocking on your door asking if you've found "God" lately.

Furthermore, there's a reason photogs are switching every day from Nikon to Canon and none switching from Canon to Nikon.
