This forum has been about as enjoyable as dry toast recently... So many huge camera announcements just in the last couple months!

Canon, Nikon, and Panasonic drop in on the Full Frame mirrorless game.

GoPro Hero 7

Fujifilm's xt3 (aspc sensor with 4k 60fps 10 bit)

Fujifilms GFX 100 (100 megapixel medium format)

New Laowa MFT Lenses

https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/09/22/laowa-announces-a-ton-of-new-lenses/

Leica 10-25mm f1.7 MFT

https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/09/25/leica-dg-vario-summilux-10-25mm-f-1-7/

A lot of these will probably be expensive af, but it has been pretty interesting to follow and it's fun to day dream.

What are you most hyped about?

Honestly can't afford to get one of these new mirrorless cams but might be going to a7sii soon.

I think its cool how the canon mirrorless has a lens with a customizable ring, would love to see that on more lenses. Although with sony's and other camera's you essentially already have that with custom buttons.

the gopro 7 is a huge step for gopro imo, dont think they've had such a big upgrade like this stabilization since they brought HD to gopro's.

A7Siii should be dropping by mid October, very excited for the slight body changes + battery of the A7Riii with some upgrades to the codec and frame rates. I picked up a GH5 this summer and have been loving 4K 60p so I'm excited to hopefully utilize that on the Sony with full frame lenses. M4/3 is nice and I'm stoked to try shooting some telephoto skiing with some 2X cropped lenses on it but I still prefer FF for pretty much everything else.

also those Loawas look interesting, 10mm rectilinear on fullframe is crazy territory

really? It looks like they took a Hero 6 and added realtime warp stabilizer built in, its EIS not OIS which is a big difference, and they make no mention of bitrates or anything that would suggest the quality of the footage has improved since the 6. EIS works by cropping the image to conform the shakes back to being as still as possible, which is severely limited when you use an ND filter for watchable motion blur, all the promo footage has the shutter cranked so I'm very doubtful they got around this issue. Nick Woodman said its a "gimbal killer" and he couldn't be more full of shit, for anything remotely serious the hero 7 isn't an upgrade

Guess i really haven't been keeping up with gopro much since the 4 came out. From the few videos i saw it looked pretty sweet. Im not gonna be getting one just cause i have no use for it

Also picked up a GH5 and the crop has actually been super helpful filming surfing. Thinking of picking up a Laowa 7.5mm f2 for some wide angle stuff. Doubt I will upgrade for a couple years, but thinking about FF for the future. What lenses are you rocking with your gh5?

Felt Panasonic came the most correct with their FF. 4k60, double card slots as well as teaming up with Leica and Sigma for lenses too. no gh5 flip out screen tho??? :( Sony will match or better it im sure!

yeah they have great marketing with the promo vids, but when you look past the "hypersmooth" hype you realize its not as incredible as they make it out to be

yeah sometimes the crop can be super helpful and surfing seems perfect for it! I fly an Inspire 2 which also is m4/3 so I've just been using the Olympus 25mm and 45mm that I use with that, but mostly a helios 58mm+anamorphic scope that I've been having a ton of fun with, love the native support for 2X stretch built into the GH5. I've also been looking into that Laowa 7.5mm for the past year waiting for someone to post a used one but I may have to bite the bullet and just grab a new one. It looks great both for droning and gimbal+gh5 stuff, but I've waited since I like telephoto more than wide, so I'm more stoked for the gh5+45mm combo for some 90mm equivalent follow cams to cut with more "normal" footage

did you diy the anamorphic scope? sounds like it would be a fun setup. finding a good used 7.5 would be ideal, but the used mft lenses for sale in australia is pretty limited haha

its a helios 44-2 taking lens with a 52mm threaded clamp holding an old 2X projection lens onto the front. Tito ferendens on youtube has a ton of helpful content if youre new to the anamorphic world. I highly recommend checking it out but be warned once you go anamorphic its hard to go "back"

also just saw a used 7.5mm on eBay last week but it was the standard version vs the lightweight, still holding out for the lightweight for drone use

definitely interested in trying it out! checked out buddies site briefly, some fucking scientific stuff. will make a sweet time passer for boring times at work! do you have any sample footage and/or photos of your set up?
