Hey im looking to upgrade to a semi pro camcorder for making high quality ski videos. budget for cam is fairly big but basically 5 grand is too much.

Have been looking at the:

JVC GY-HM100E
http://www.jvc.com.au/professional/professional-cameras/pro-hd-cameras/gy-hm100e

and the

Sony HXRMC50E
http://www.sony.com.au/product/hxr-mc50e

Both these are small and powerful and have had good reviews on them.

anyone has experience with using semi pro/ pro camcorders and has any advice before buying a serious camera or anything else to consider.. please comment.

or if there are any other products i should be looking at for ski filming

Get an hmc150, hpx170, Or hvx200. Used or new. Or you could wait for the ag-ac130 and ag-ac160 to drop this fall. There is also the xf100.

thank you. these all look really good.. but possibly some too expensive.

can anyone comment on the stand out aspects of any of the mentioned cameras? or have a reason that it would be work best for filming in the snow? am very keen on slow motion film.. if it is possible in this price range. cheers for the help

They all shoot 720 60p and I believe you can over crank in the hvx and hpx. the ag-ac 160 will cost right around $4000 and will shoot 1080 60p with no audio. Also you could look at the tm700 or 900. they both shoot 1080 60p but aren't "pro" cameras. They put out some impressive results.

These are my favorite just from searching around on the net.. it seems that Sony looks really but but possibly too much for me still.. anyway here are the cameras. please comment if you have any useful info. cheers

If you can get the hpx. between the 4:2:2 color sampling and the p2 workflow its a very nice camera. If you can wait for september though there will be a flood of used ones for sale.
