Ok here is the deal..

Me and some friends would like to be able to film ourselves this season..and be able to make small vids (edit in music maybe, edit out falls etc (I have a dell with windows me)). Now I was wondering what all I need for this (camera, software).

If it could be like under 500 that would be cool I just need simple kind of stuff I could find at Best Buy or something....Thanks a lot

okay so the easiest way to go is buy a MiniDV camcorder. You can get low end models fairly cheap and in my experience most shoot fine in daylight (its nighttime when it pays to have a more expensive camera) so if you get a minidv camera all you need is a FireWire (IEEE1394) card to get the video to your computer (if you don't use minidv you have to buy another, slower and lower quality method to get your video on the computer). Keep in mind that you will need lots of hard drive space. MiniDv footage takes up 13 GB per hour.

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions just message me.

peace,

cko

hey thanks a lot..from the looks of In the Haze it looks like you know what you are doing..thanks

my advice on a camcorder would be to get the one with the most manual setting as you can afford. You want to be able to tweak the image to get the best results, especially when filming on snow. I have a JVC and I have had no problems with it. Canon and Sony also make great camcorders (I prefer the colours of the Sonys). You'll find that most lower-end camcorders have a CCD around 680,000 pixels (the chip that captures all the picture information). Just get the one that fits your hand/eye the best and you won't be disappointed. Yay MiniDV!

yea me really sucks..my family just got it with our dell but yea i didnt have a choice..thanks cko you are big help

no prob. I don't really know why everyone thinks that XP is the best. I had limited experience with ME/2000 but I didn't think it was that bad. I use XP and its still crashes occasionally. The best thing though is that it's true plug and play - no hassles when setting up hardware. Anyways yeah, try and get yourself Premiere for editing. It's the best for editing on a PC.

I dont really think XP is the best, but it's just that ME is the worst. Even 98 is a better and more stable OS than ME.

The only problem that I notice is that it will freeze up once in a while..other than that I don't really mind it..thanks tho everyone

If you get a miniDV camera you will be going in no time at all. Check out Ebay for some good deals.
