I have looked at Canon Optura and some JVC I am looking at other stuff to but I want a camcorder that has real good quality for under 500-600 canadian.

Well you're not going to get 'real good quality' for that price, but I would go with the canon if you can only spend that much. If you can afford it though, i have to reccomend the Canon GL1. It's just awesome. Perfect for taping skiing stuff. Just a very professional-quality camera, and about 1/2 the price of some equal quality ones.

 
I have an Optura 20 and I like it, obviously in low light it is not too solid. In the first month I had it, something inside broke and nothing would work on it, but they fixed it in a week. Also, I had to get a head cleaning tape, the damn video heads need to be cleaned every week.

But that's just my 2 cents on the Canon, can't help on the JVC, but I've heard that Canons are a bit better.

Canon is better they make Amazing lenses, and the best optical zoom in the bizzz. You should check out e bay for a Canon Gl-1 you could pick one for the price of a new one ccd camera.
