Camcorder questions

well its time for me to get a new camera and i was looking at the panasonic gs300. seems like a good camera and i can get a good package on ebay. what do you guys think about this cam? also im a little confused about the tapes, i know it also has the digital video card that you can record on and put on your computer but if you record on the tapes theres no way of putting that on your comp rite? because i only want a cam for my skiing and biking shit and all that has to come on my comp for editing, is it a waste of money to get a cam with the tape feature? any suggestions on other cams to get? dont wanna spend much more than $500 keep that in mind.

also what is a good editing program?

get a mini-dv cam. you can upload the footage to your computer w/ a firewire, or maybe USB cable.

If you're not willing to spend $1000 or more, the cameras in your range are pretty much all the same, so go do circuit city or whereever, find a camera that fits well in your hand and has features you like. I wouldn't spend anymre than $350.

As far as editing programs, check the seach bar cuz there's a bunch of threads on it already, but for mac Final Cut pro is the best, PC is Adobe Premier, but these are expensive professional-level programs. I havn't used, but have heard about a cheaper program called Vegas that's pretty good.

im sorry but this was a really stupid thread. Sorry to be so blunt.

You can get stuff you record onto a tape onto your computer, quite simply actually. You just need a firewire cable and you're set. Plug it in, turn your camera to VCR mode or playback mode or whatever its called, and a box should pop up similiar to when you plug in a usb drive. Then choose to capture with an editing program. Pretty simple, this is kinda mean but i dont get how you didnt know that you can get footy off tapes, why else would they have them?
