Camcorder Noob- help meee

Going to ask for a cam for christmas- i want high def for sure and would like it to have an internal harddrive.
SO 2 things- internal hard drives are fine right? wont freeze or anything, and also im looking for one that around 500$, so what brands and models would you suggest- specific models would be huge help!
thanks for the help!! ++K

You are not going to want one with an external hard drive. They are fragile and they don't work very well in cold weather. You should get one that uses tapes or flash memory. For $500, you might try to find a used or refurbished HV30, comparable flash models would be a little more expensive.

Get a canon hv20 you can film SD or HD and it runs on tapes. Can pick one up for about 300-400 and you can use that extra money for a battery and tapes.

i havent had any problems with internal hard drives, and its nice for the room (i had a 40gb) but i took care of it, and it was expensive but that was like 2007 so theyve prolly come down
