Calling all NS Lax Bros...

MACAQUE

I'm taking up lacrosse, and I need to buy gear. Right now I'm just looking for a stick and as the season starts I'll buy pads etc. I don't really know anything about lax gear, so if you knowledgeable NSers could point me in the right direction it would be great.

ive been playing for a whille and love it. for your stick, it all realy depends on what posion you want to play and your budget. not sure if you know but defence has longer sticks and attack and middy has short stick. and golie has a stick a little longer than a attack/middy stick.

For your stick I recommend a Brine Clutch with hard mesh, and a Swizz Beat. If you buy it from a store in real life tell them you want a mid pocket. When buying gear gets stuff that feels good. Trust me, having gear that doesn't fit well sucks.

I don't play lax anymore but go on lax.com and order a warrior evolution 2.0, a warrior stringing kit (have an experienced friend string the head), and any stick over 60 bucks, thats what I would do if I was just starting, it all depends on what you want to spend, a cheaper stick would work fine if you don't want to spend a lot.

yeah make sure all pads fit snug. not tight. or loose. gloves that air out are nice to so your hands don't get really hot and also so your gloves don't smell like complete shit after a week. If your a goalie a throat guard is key but don't get the cheap string attach ones get the bolted ones. lacrosse is fun.

What position do you want to play? Midfield/Middie- Able to go anywhere on the field except the opponents crease around the goal? Lots of running.

Attack- Only able to go on the half of the field where the opponents goal is. Main offensive players, not much running compared to Middie, quick on feet.

Defense- Can only stay on the half of the field with your team's goal(unless goalie), can go over if a Middie stays back. Not much running, quick on feet.

It would help so much better if you knew what position you wanted to play, because there are so many sticks/heads/equipment based on the position you play.

I'm thinking Defense, because that's what I like to play in soccer. My friend who is getting me into lax wants me to play LSM, so wither way I'll probably go with a D stick.

Don't listen to anyone saying the stick you buy has anything to do with what position you play, you have to develop a preference, but for now I would just pick one that seems to fit you. Ask your friends to throw with their stick and develop a preference that way. for a shaft you should get a light one, but some people like the feel of a heavier shaft. again preference.
Pads: To me pads don't really matter either, just go to the store and buy the comfiest ones there, that are also the style you need.
as for styles of pads:
Shoulders: Everybody cuts the shoulders off of their shoulderpads so those dont really matter, theyre all essentially the same after that.
Elbows: attack - bigger arm guards, you will get hacked middie - medium size arm pads, more mobility and lighter, and a middie has less risk of a longpole smashing their arm. defense - medium or small, doesnt really matter, you probably wont need them that much.
Gloves: again whatever you feel most comfortable with. I suggest STX k18's, Nike Vapor Elite's, or Bring King 2 or 3's. but its still preference.
I know this probably doesn't help much, maybe it'll give you a little bit of guidance on the style of padding you should get, but the actually pads that you get don't really matter.
good luck

Well since you will be playing D you will want a head that is stiff that way it will be able to take a beating from poking and slashing the shit out of people/peoples sticks. Considering you are just starting to play you should probably not get something mega expensive. Check out lacrossemonkey.com and lacrosse.com for some heads and shafts considering they are usually having sales.

Also because you are playing D you should get a head that is preferably not very pinched making it a little easier to catch/intercept balls. If I were you I would just go to a Dick's Sporting Goods by you and find a D stick and head that are preferably not expensive considering this is your first year playing. As you develop your skills you can start to spend more money on better equipment.

That's exactly the opposite of what I've been getting told by friends though. They're all saying get something nice that won't break, rather than get something cheap that won't last.

Theres no sense in spending a lot of money in something if you don't really know if you are going to stay committed, if you feel like playing for more than one season then you should drop some extra money on it. If not then you should go cheap for now. I still have the first stick I ever got, not broken even after 3 years of abuse. I got new stuff during my 4th year, even cheap stuff will last for more than one season.

Buy my Mohawk Mach 1 with monster mesh + Harrow box shaft.

first off, not a very quality stringing...second if he's playing nfhs rules in america, then the box shaft wont be regulation and he wont be able to use it.

i got some gear i would be glad to sell you for a very reasonable price i got a shaft, head, full arm pads, and sholder pads....pm me if your intrested

clutch and swizz ? are you retarded..this kids a noob to the sport, you cant expect him to start out with such a pinched head and grippy shaft...kid, you need a sci ti pro, or some titanium loose grip shaft and the proton super power, if you have the money..its an all around great combo that works amazing with beginners or pros

when it comes to your stick its completely about preference and whatever you like. play around with a couple of your friends different poles and feel what you like.

you have no idea what youre talking about. The Sci Ti pro is one of the most expensive shafts out there.....and theres no such thing as the "proton super power". There's a "proton power" and a "siper power", both made by STX, but they're completely different heads. One is high school legal, and one is legal in high school and college. Honestly the grip of the shaft is preference, it really doesnt matter for a beginner or expert. He just needs a quality setup, and more importantly a quality string job so he can learn.

It's all preference. Find some friends who play lacrosse and throw around with their sticks. See what kind of pocket you like.

Don't spend a lot of money unless you are really committed. Lax gets really expensive.

yes i actually do...ive played lax for 8 years..and yes you're right but if this kid is gonna buy an expensive shaft, even if he doesnt need it, he should buy the sci ti pro. I would agree with you on the quality string job though. Once he has fundamentals down he can build a stick from there. No point in starting off with the best shit

I think a very good stick for playing d would be a brine swizzle with a proton u head. thats what i use and it has held up for 3 seasons.

if you need gear i have my brothers brand new stuff to sell because he can't play anymore due to too many concussions so if your interested PM me. and for the stick i would go to lax.com , laxmonkey.com lacrosseunlimited.com or comlax.com. i recommend comlax they are good with stringing any type of stick, they did my goalie stick and a few of my brothers sticks.

Google lacrosse forums and click on the one that says inside lAcrosse.lacrosse forums or something like that and make a thread there this is so much more knowledge there than on a skiing website

Bro for a new lax bro all you should get is the STX proton power. Great head fairly cheap and is a good learner head fr when u move onto bigger and better heads.

i say lax bros are all cocky stuck up ass holes. no hate cause im friends with a bunch of them but i still think all "lax bros" arent bros at all, theyre cock suckers, but the sports sick to watch and hard to play so good luck and dont let it get to your head like every other kid. you may think you are the coolest kid cause you play lax but your not.

I think I'm going with a Swizz Beat because that's what I was using when I was playing with some friends and I liked it, and it's getting recommended a lot here. Not sure on the head though.
