Calling all musicians

So NS, Im trying to think of a good way of introducing this idea. It is just an idea, i havent really given it much thought but i thought i would throw it out there to see how it is taken by the general audience.

I was listening to the band "the postal service" and i read a little bit about them. They are made up of two guys. one writes the music, then sends it to the other and he records vocals on it.

Do you think it would be possible to do something like this on NS? Im sure there are enough of us with different musical backgrounds to produce something cool and unique.

Some immediate problems would be programs. Figuring out a way where a bunch of people could access the same music files on different programs/operating systems and things like that. but before i really work on figuring that out, i thought i would see what you guys think.

It may be a foolish idea, but i want to give something like this a try, and thought ns would be a good place to try.

For me, I play drums a lot and can get around on a guitar although im sure there are much better players on here than me.

I have a drum mic set up in my basement so i can record drum tracks.

I've been drumming for 11 years and I can also play guitar, bass, piano, uke, a little bit of trumpet(but i dont own one) , and i've dabbled on things like accordions. And I'm OK at making music on the computer and such.
 
man this sounds fucking amazing i would love to be involved

i play alto sax and im a pretty good singer ( i also beatbox if that counts)

i've got a midi keyboard and guitar. I'm no expert, but i'd be down.

We should have rounds, like a contest. Everyone adds a track on that week, and we vote. Winning track sticks and the next week repeats, but split up the weeks into categories like drums, harmonies, rhythm, lead, bass, etc. Probably would require more thought and ideas to make it work but it could produce something cool.
 
hey,this is a great idea.. as soon as i read "CALLING ALL MUSICIANS" i washoping this is what this thread was about.. idk if any of you guyshave seen these videos but the "playing for a change" videos onyoutube.. they are mixes of people all around the world singing/playingsongs. mostly street musicians.. but they wear headphones of the peoplebefore them playing and then improvise and add on to whatever theyhear..

anyway my roommate and I both play guitar and would join in..
 
It might work if you set up a beat and have each person jam over it and upload their song. This has been done on many a guitar forum in the past with success...

If you have every user contribute to the same piece, it's going to be garbage. I can tell you that right now...
 
I'd try, even though there are like 4 other people before me I also play guitar.

I think a good program to try would be garage band, it's nothing special. But everyone who has a mac has that program...
 
Sounds sweet, i play drums, bass and can sing, although i hate singing...
i got some mics and such in basement along with logic i use to record with.

 
I can play guitar and bass, a bit of piano/organ, and mandolin. If you wanna hear some stuff I've recorded pm me!
