passed away this morning, first athlete to die in 17 years of x games. RIP, vibes to the family of a crazy good snowmobiler
 
Fuck. I haven't really been following his condition but if figured if there's a thread it's probably bad.

Really sad series of events. Hopefully there aren't too many repercussions in the XGames and stuff as a result.
 
wasnt he able to walk away intially? that shit is scary, like you think, "ok, i can stand upright and walk, cant be THAT bad", and you have some sort of internal bleeding/damage that hits you a few hours afterwards

RIP. extreme sports are called for a reason. sadly we will see a lot more of this stuff with the increasing amount of people who participate in such sports

I still think those fools are crazy for doing what they do on a 450 lbs machine. a snowmobile is an entirely different beast than a dirt bike, and I dont think they belong at X. there I said it.
 
I get the X-Games are for extreme athletes and people always want to push the bar but this years x-games was just terrible (besides Henriks Nose Triple). Three crashes in a row snowmobiling, one ended in death. The idiots at X-Games/ESPN let Jackson Strong atempt one stupid ass trick after 4 hours on a 450lbs machine only to injure a young fan (kid). Some revisions need to be done next year, but i'm just a spectator giving my opinion...

Very sadden to hear of Caleb Moore's death.. Makes me sad.

Caleb was seriously such a great athlete and attribute to the sport. He was my favorite out there and he will definitely be missed.

Rest in peace Caleb. Amazing rider. Hopefully he will help someone else survive by donating his organs. Vibes for Colten and the Moore family and friends. Ill never forget when those two blew my mind with their tandem backflip.

Why dont you think they belong there? Id say theres more money in snowmobiling then skiing and applies to a bigger audience. Thats what the xgames is after all marketing
 
First of all RIP Caleb.

Second of all Jackson has more than enough time riding bikes to be confident on a sled; and the 4 hours deal was only something for ESPN to hype. And it's not like Jackson made an error and landed on a kid. His throttle stuck open which was a mechanical error, and only a runaway kill switch of some sort could have prevented that.
 
Damn. Heard about him being in critical condition and dreaded hearing this news. RIP Caleb Moore
 
If its around your wrist you can move your hands too far away from the bars. If its to your chest area you cant really drift too far from the sled. To the chest would prob be the best solution. But then again freestyles all about the backflip now
 
In monster truck freestyle and racing they have remote shut off controlled by an official. That could probably be incorporated into snowmobiling. Or should be. I've had my throttle stick and cause $4500 in damage to my sled. It happens more often than youd think.

I need to pay more attention to what I'm reading. And the media loves this shit. Lets take somebodies tragic death and milk the shit out of it and address problems that nobody knew existed just for something to talk about.

True... But they wouldn't let, lets say Erik Koston go down the slopestyle course after 4 hours of riding a snowboard. Riding a motorcylce is completley different than riding a sled, the weight, the clutch, the speed... Everything. It seems very convienent that this throttle became stuck, not sure that would have happened to a more experienced rider. I love extreme sports, thats what i've based my whole life around but there comes a point when something is sick and progressive to something that is stupid and outright dangerous. You can pretty much expect multiple people to get messed up flipping a sled. They don't need to remove the event, just revise it.

 
True. Forgot this is 2013 lol. And i know i ride old sleds and dirtbikes so im well aware of what can happen
