i just committed to go there in fall 2012 as a mechanical engineer.

are there any newschoolers out there who are also going to be freshmen there this fall?? if so we should totally link up.

This would be the last school I thought I'd meet another NS'er at but yeah I'm transferring there next fall! I'm an environmental studies major i'm from boulder, now I live in mammoth but I split my time between mammoth lakes and orcutt which is like 40 minutes south of SLO if you go out for a visit there hit me up we can have some beers or blunts, or both!

Im a junior this year and I have narrowed my interests down to mechanical and environmental engineering and I am participating in a program called ACE. We are building an arena in the local seattle area and have been getting to try out both disciplines as if I am in the industry. Recently I have also been looking into industrial engineering and engineering management. I have looked at cal poly before but it would be nice to have an inside scoop on how the engineering department is. What made it your choice for school? Thanks

sorry I dont understand your question. are you saying that ski/snowboard clubs are what made you want to choose where to go? Or asking if thats important to me. But i would like to still be able to ski occasionally and thats something thats pretty important to me. cal poly wouldn't be the best with skiing in mind but i also surf a bit and I would be willing to take that more seriously.

I was asking if Cal Poly has any sort of ski or snowboard club or program available just out of curiosity because I know UCSB has one and the two schools are relatively close to eachother but not relatively close to any mountains. I'm originally from the area and a resident of california that's why I'm transferring so I know the skiing is very very far from ideal hahah but I also surf and skate and just love SLO so yeah just curious if they have something for it.

Dude. Dude they have the most wild and crazy fun ski club of any university I have been to. CPSC!!! I went to poly for a year and it was off the hook. Look up CPSC/central pacific ski club. They got big trip every year. Like 5 small trips, great contests and THE dopest parties. They were the ones behind the naughty by nature party that was on the baried life in 09. Everybody in Slo but the actual college loves them, but cal poly kicked them off campus, thus the name change to central pacific ski club rather than cal poly ski club. $30 to join get a sick ass t shirt and hookups thru out town. Always giving out hats glasses and other CPSC swag. All in all good dudes and gals and it's def worth joining.

You should. just for an example of what CPSC is like:

I love going to poly so much for so many reasons. SLO is one of the most beautiful places i've ever been in and there are endless things to do here. Poly as a school is great. The only downsides are obviously distance from skiing, it can be a bit hard to get into classes, and the athletic program isn't too big. soccer games are super fun though, especially the UCSB vs CP game. Feel free to PM if you want more info.

I was sponsored for skateboarding by oneway... its the sticker on the guys ski in the thumbnail... Welp thats the best news all day about the central pacific ski club. and bird to answer your question Yeah I went to CU boulder for my freshman year of college, then some funky things happened with my in state residency since my dad was in the airforce then retired so i lost in state in colorado and couldnt afford the 46,000 a year there, but I can get in state in california so i put in for transfer for cal poly and got accepted last week. so now it's like figuring out if my credits will transfer or if I'll be a freshman again, also i have to find out whether i have to live in the dorms which brings me to my next question.
What are good dorms at cal poly?
Thanks for the great feedback oscarthegrouch got me hyped as fuck literally made my day! +k brotha!!

thanks to you as well brotha +k
also guys in this thread already at cal poly or just living in slo, i live in mammoth and orcutt, which is like 40 minutes south of slo I basically split my time down the middle between the two. I have only been here for a few months since moving from boulder maybe one of you guys would wanna meet up for some beers sometime i'd love to get an introduction to slo from someone around my age, and meeting up with another NS'er would be like super prime, grab some beers or buds and get my bearings for the area. Shoot me a PM if you;d be up for it it'd be much appreciated

The general agreement from everyone i've talked to is that the best dorms are Sierra Madre and Yosemite. I was in Sierra Madre and it was a blast.

I 2nd Sierra madge or yousimitie. Pretty wild times in sm twr3. Anybody feel free to pm askin me anything about poly/ cpsc

i am going to be living in either santa clara (the engineering dorm) or sierra madre. i will for sure look into the ski club that shit looks awesome. i guess i sort of made this thread to see if i would have any luck finding a potential roommate so we'll see. pm me if you want to swap info or whatever cause i'm always down to meet rad people who like to ski

Red bricks are cool as well. Hit up taco roco for cheap dank Mexican food, el neighbor for late night drunken Mexican food, eienstiens for hangover bagels in the morning, breakfast buzz, Luisas place, mclintocks, Firestone grill, woodstocks. The best food on campus is the ave or metro. Can't beat VGs free late night during the week. Shell beach is where all the kids go, Morris bay is dope, cloud 9 is the best smoke shop, oh and one way use to sell fks.

My friend will be entering next year as a freshman for materials engineering and is trying to ski a lot and cruise to Mammoth on the reg. He'll be stoked to hear that there are other skiers at Poly. OP you'll love Cal Poly. It's one of my top choices, but I doubt I'll end up there. I've never met a person that didn't like their time at Cal Poly.

I got accepted there for general engineering next fall. I am still considering where I want to go, but if I do I'll try to hit you up
