Yo,

My friend and I are planning a trip to NZ, we are from Canada and pretty much know nothing about the area.

Our plan is fly into Wanaka and bus it to Cadrona for a week. Is this a good idea, or should we try and stay on the hill?

Also are there any good hostels to stay in? or cheap Hotels?

any tips on what we should be doing is greatly appreciated, we are also trying to keep it very cost affective

Thanks

Yo dude I am currently doing the exact thing you are planning. I'm from edmonton and am IN wanaka, riding cardies and snow park. Don't stay in cardrona, there is really nothing there. Stay in Wanaka, tons of cheap hostels and getting to hill is real easy. Getting a ride to cardrona is really easy, snow park is still easy but not as many people go so fewer people to get a ride from. I hitched once, then i met some guys and just get a ride with them all the time and chip in for gas. As for hostels, Im staying in this sweet place called purple cow, not cheapest but really relaxed. There are a couple places for less than 20 a night, but its not gonna be the most pleasant night. If you have anymore questions drop me a pm.

There are a few backpackers in town. Base X would be your best bet. And def wanaka. Any info feel free to PM me im a bit busy right now but after today i'm pretty free.

you cant really fly into wanaka, well you can, but its mad expensive....your best bet is to fly to queenstown, then bus to wanaka...if thats to expensive for you, you could fly to christchurch and i may be going home that weekend so could drive you down

I hitch to Cardrona every day. Its pretty easy but getting harder every day. I stay at the matterhorn hostile which is really nice, it even has a hot tub. Im not sure how much it is cuz i stay for free. I think 24 a night.
