Hey so Im super stoked right now, I am going to be grabbing an fs700 tommorow and a few other things.

I need your advice on certain things to buy.

I need a solid tripod with a fluid head (arround 800$) needs to have a ball head and fast strong legs

for the curious, or those who get camera boners, heres the list of what Im getting with it.

-fs700 18-200

-metabones adaptor ef mount

- 6 foot crane

-small hd ac7 external monitor

-glidecam

-Gini advanced extreme rig ( look them up, wow!)

Also I need help thinking of a shot to record with the camera. I want the first shot I ever record to be an epic or hilarious slowmotion, something worth while!

that would be jokes, hard to get first shot though. I litterally want the first time I ever hit record to be successful and something worth while. Sort of like inaugurating the thing.

hey man, i got a manfrotto 503hd head and some really nice manfrotto legs that i'll let go for 500! brand new still in box, comes with a beautiful cover.

will take pics if interested

why didnt I think if a god damm snowball! Its going to be kept for conisideration, it would kill me if I missed my shot and recorded a face not doing anything as my first video.

I will definately get pictures up with full rig, it will get me intense rig boners! I hope I can set it up with a screen, mic, follow focus, and maybee an LED light for events.

For the adaptor, Im only getting the normal one since I have wide lenses that would look like shit. the thing is, my lens kit was designed for apsc sensors so, I would have to change a lot for the speedbooster. I also saw some reviews saying it was amazing overall but some lenses were softer arround the edges.

I read this too, makes sense. As far as a tripod, what do you think your rig will weigh? I saw this on BH:

Body Only: 3.7 lb (1680 g)

Fully Loaded: 6.75 lb (3060 g)

Which would lead me to believe that you could use an fsb-4 and be alright, but they max out at 8.8lbs and I don't think they will support the crane. Aslo, we can only imagine what sony considers fully loaded vs your kit. I noticed the monitor also, a typical piece of many rigs, but likely not considered in that calculation

Guess ill be the first to ask, why are you spending so much money on your setup? You surely don't NEED an fs700, why not save $4k and get a used 100? Not trying to be rude I'm just curious please correct me if I'm wrong

but wow that's a lot to be spending haha, This is probably pretty obvious but you're not JUST using the 18-200 are you?...

I dont think hes jealous.. hes got one himself I'm fairly certain.

Film someone getting a beer bottle smashed over their head and super slow mo that ish.

I am curious as well. This is something I ask most people when they get an fs700...

Not only could you save a good amount of $, but have extra cash to actually get nice glass (instead of that 18-200) and all the actual accessories you want without shorting yourself on anything? Etc etc [devils advocate]

The 18-200 is actually a very nice lens.

And magnus I'm not jealous I've used a 700 and it has two features 120/240 and and filters not worth $4k imo

Few reasons, im investing witb the future in mind. Dont need 4k now but i can upgrade easily. Neeeded the nd's badly. The slowmotion for me is really important for short films and especially my weddings. It will make my video productions stand out locally. I already have all my glass so the money saved wouldnt really help me. Also with such a serious cam I can more easily work my way to tv or cinema.

I'm no film guru but spending 4k more for nds which you could get for next to nothing, and getting 120, even 240 fps for weddings seems a bit useless, you're not going to need to slow anything down at a wedding that happens that fast are you? I get the 4k though.

Even if you miss the face on the first throw you don't have to stop recording. I'm sure there would be some laughs as the expected impact narrowly misses then BOOM snowball to the face mid laugh. That would still all be your first video clip shot with the cam!

Videoclips my friend, slowmotion is a huge tool if I am going to film videoclips. My way of seeing it is that, im not buying it for 1 year. More like 5 to 10. All of these features make it worthwile for me to advance.

Sorry i always forget its a french term. In montreal you can say this with most people knowing what you mean, guess its not international.

I ment music videos. Im shooting with one of quebec's biggest punk bands starting this week for a documentary. Hopefully It can evolve into bigger contracts with them or other artists since they are huge here.

Yeah that's legit I'm not gonna judge people based on a purchase I was just curious cause an fs700 is a big setup if you're making the money to fund that setup more power to you

I would be concerned using the fs700 slow mo for weddings with the write time. The a99s record times pause even has me worried sometimes. My buddy just bought the 700 and I will say its a blast to film with. The nds are a nice addition and would be appreciated on the fs100, but for the price of an eclipse vari nd, i can deal with it lol

Unfortunately this is way more true than it should be...and I don't mean that as a slight towards you, I mean that many clients have a hard time looking past what camera the filmmaker is using.

anyways, can't wait to see what you shoot with this thing!
