Buying an XBox?

So i want to get an Xbox (i can't go on with only playing cod mod at my friends, it's too painful). Just wonderin if i should drop the extra dough to get the elite? plus i don't have a jack downstairs to get internet, so is the Xbox wireless adapter they sell gonna work fine? (i get great wireless where i plan on setting it up). any other suggestions? where to buy? how much it should be? etc etc....?

Thaks alot. just don't feel like going out and spending so much money on something i don't know much about

The new MW2 360 has a ton of space but the regular elites are not as much and still have a ton of memory so id say go elite. thats what i have and its sick. plus they're black, not white. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY AN ARCADE VERSION. you have to throw money at it for upgrades like harddrive and a fan to prevent overheating. the elite is your best bet probably. they are phenominal
 
defiently go with an elite if your tv supports HDMI, but my elite got the red rings so i threw an aftermarket fan in there and it works better than ever n no more red rings and it doesnt sound like a helicopter taking off in my room, for the wireless adapter they work fine and their range is really far so no worries dude
 
check the price differences where you are buying from and if there is a significant difference then the normal xbox will do u just fine (as the only difference is storage room). but for sure invest in the wireless adapter, so easy and worth it
 
the only problem with the wireless adapter is that its $100. It works awesome so if you got the coin then I say buy it but otherwise if you have a laptop you can set it up to share your wireless connection with the xbox. Just google it there are tons of tutorials on how to do it if you want to go that route
 
oh well that sounds nice. i just have a qwest modem transmitting wireless throughout my house that already have 3 laptops on the system, so you're saying i can just figure a way to configure it that way?

and thanks to the rest of you (+k once i'm done typing this). sounds like the elite is the way to go. would ebay be an ok option as long as i buy it from a 'top rated seller'?
 
I don't like 360s cause I am a PS3 fan but go with the Elite. If I were to lay down the dough for a 360 I would get the Elite.

1.) the HD is nice

2.) it is a 360 but for the most part I haven't heard too much about RROD with them

3.) it is black and black just looks classy and fits in with everything.
 
i have the elite. my bro bought it and i don't really see any difference between the two. but then again we are playing on a peice of shit tv so...

I have the Pro, which is 20GB of memory, more than enough and I did get the RROD but got an aftermarket intercooler for it and it now runs fine. You would have to buy an HDMI cable if you wanted to run that setup, but there is a switch on the cord so that when you plug in the RCA jacks you can run an HD signal to your TV if its compatible.

I have an LG HDTV and just use the regular cables with the switch on "HD" and the picture is crisp and phenomenal.

Also, invest in some good headphones, makes a HUGE difference in MW2. I didn't have a lot of cash to spend so I got Turtle Beach X1's and they're AWESOME!
 
i could possibly want to sell my elite and i can include cod and wireless adaptor what would you want to offer for it also like 3 controllers
 
dont buy it on ebay cause you most likely wont be up for free repairs from microsoft. and you never know if it works until you have it and someone could scam you alot of money for a broken one. buy from a future shop or best buy or whatever
 
is the arcade one not fully hd? i was wondering the same if i should get the elite or not, i have enough money but i want to get a new pair of skis, so i can only afford the arcade and not the elite or ps3, i afraid im not a massive gamer so the skis win....
but is it ok to get the arcade? (bearing in mind i have a full 1080p tv and want the hd stuff)
 
My xbox ate shit today actually, 3 rings of death bullshit. but surprisingly microsoft pays for the shipping and sends you a refurb for free so I'm not that pissed about it.
But back to the question, I like my xbox, and I picked up a used wireless adapter for like 30 bucks and it works fine where ever I can pick up wifi. Don't go with the arcade package, I'd def go with the Pro.
On the other hand, I recently got a ps3, which as the wireless adapter already built in, and I will say I do like it more than my 360.

yo get the 360 elite jasper i just got it for 100$ cuz mine broke i bought it through some dude on ebay and he offered that as opposed to a free 360 that would break again, but the jasper chip is apparently some new tech so its virtually inpossible to get the ring of death
 
The wireless adapter kind of sucks, you would be better off spending 100 bucks on cat5. But if you have an old lap top you can use that and it will work a lot better. PM me if you go this route and I will tell you what to do.

 
This, all the new models have the Jasper chip which runs on less power and generates less heat. I find a hard drive useless for just gaming, I would get the arcade and then buy a hard drive for cheap online. It also has a bit of flash built in so you might not even need the hard drive. But a 120 gb HD seems like over kill when you can't easily put stuff on it.
 
I put all my games on the Hard drive, they run a lot better that way and dont put so much strain on the disc drive.
