Buying a kayak?

So i went kayaking the other day and i really liked it and we decided we'd be getting one to go on the lake we live in and other places like that. All i need to know is what prices i can expect for a reasonably good kayak, but inexpensive, and other basic stuff
 
if you're looking to just go lake kayaking.. most compainies make some basic kayaks for that purpose. One great thing about these companies is that sometimes they screw up a paint job so the boat gets all different colory. They still sell these boats but for 300 dollars off or something. I know that Jackson Kayaks do this with there white water boats, and i'm pretty sure that Wave Sport does too with there white water boats. I'm not sure how to get them, but I bet if you shoot a company an email asking about this, they could hook you up with a good deal. (Remember: They may not always have the boat that you want because these are boats that have a mistake in the color)
 
If you're looking to get one for just scooting around on a lake, i would recommend picking up an inflatable kayak. They work really well for cruising around and for rivers with smaller, less technical features.
 
Sounds like you just need a recreational Kayak. Expect to pay between $500-800 depending on brand, quality, and features you want on it. Paddle and Life jacket are necessary.

I'd recommend buying used from someone. Im sure craigslist has something cheap.

But If your thinking about getting into trips or more technical Kayaking, look for a kayak with a Keel. This the type that makes you be able to rolls, tricks, surf, all the other super cool Kayak stuff. If your going this route I recommend taking some Kayaking classes. Go through ACA if your in North America.
