Buy/Sell/Trade suggestion

i find myself shopping around on the forum alot, however it is extremely unorganized and i get a headache from looking through endless random sales.

maybe there could be categories, ie:

Boards/bindings

Boots

Goggles

Helmets

Outer wear

Casual wear

Garage Sale

i think this would create a huge amount of attention and popularity with the BST forum

This has been said for years. It's extremely easy to do but none of the mods want to go through and organize the old threads.

Then where do we put an all encompassing sale? You know, one of the ones with 10 different items ranging from skis to bindings to shirts etc.

Unless, of course, I am misunderstanding what you mean by 'Garage Sale'. I assume that one means the sale of all the random shit you found in your closet.

This comes up every few month, and the general consensus is always people would rather keep it the way it is.

if there was a known date that everyone was aware of, that the new organized BST were to be released, you could delete all old threads and start over.

it would suck for a few weeks, but be a great investment of effort.

lets consider it as releasing a hot item.

i agree, and when we make a sale there could be a place to enter brand, color, size, year, price, and all that stuff, and it would generate an appropriate title such as: "Salomon SPK Kaos Ski Boot (2010 - Black/White) $200.00." Something like that would make finding what you want really easy, and then like said above there should be a garage sale section for people just getting rid of everything.

The WTB and "feeler" threads are getting ridiculous, an unbumped thread will be off the first page in like 3 hours.

exactly. and 3 hours is a stretch, ive seen the first page consist of only replies within the hour!

it is a headache to look through, but there are SO many people buysing, selling, and trading things i think this is really worth looking into. being the only part of ns that has HUGE potential that has not been tapped into

what about a BST filter so when your posting you can select what type of sale it is. then when someone is looking through BST they can select a category and only sales with that category shows up. Therefor you can have the choice of seeing every sale, or just certain sales

or we could get rid of feelers. i think things should either be legitmently put it up for sale, or just kept, not see how much they can get for it, clutter up bst and eventually just keep it.

Breaking it down into product types really wouldn't work since everyone seems to post combo sales

What about just splitting the forums into basically:

Have, Don't Want

and

Want, Don't Have

it's a good start. separating the sellers/buyers. I really think there should be some type of organization however, as you bring up a valid point that there are combo sales maybe there should be a separate section for combo's/ski-boot-binding/apparel/goggle/etc.

SOME sort of organization would help enormously, but if your gonna do it you might as well do it right

how about 5 then?

1. want to buy

2. skis, boots, bindings, poles

3. outerwear (jacket, pants, helmet, goggles)

4. casual wear (hoodies, tall tee's, etc)

5. garage sale (combo sales, stickers, ipods, etc)

maybe these would be some ideas to consider

keep BST the way it is and create a separate WTB area. That way you could scan the WTB's to see if anyone wants something that you might have and be willing to sell, and it would eliminate 90% of the clutter the current BST area has. Also people need to title the sale thread with some of the items in it, not just "spring cleaning sale", which would also help members browse easier.

Yeah a bit more organised would help and wouldn't it clear up server space and what not deleting threads from 2000

and a want to buy, because there are wayyy to many wtb threads

and more obvious guidelines as to how to make threads (alot of the noobs with the trendiest gear dont read the stickied threads and make retarded thread titles)

i have no problem with the organization.

but i want insta-deletion of

any thread without pictures (good ones, not blurry cell phone crap)

any thread without prices

any stupid feeler threads (aka kids flipping their jiberish for twice retail)

any stupid wtb threads (with titles like saga, and bodies that then say "jackets". wtb threads need to have specific item, size, and price range).

i didnt say no cell phone pictures. i said no crappy cell phone pictures. so no pictures of you in the mirror with no lights on where all you see is a blurry outline of the pants you are trying to sell. turn some lights on, take the picture outside, whatever.

there is no legitimacy to your argument, and nor is this ^ really able to be regulated.

i appreciate your idea, but it does not provide any sufficient guidelines as far as organization and that is what we are suggesting to the mods

yes it is. im part of a shoe forum, and i feel a HELL of a lot more comfortable buying from there at this point since all those things are required.

EITHER STEP YOUR CAMERA UP OR SIMPLY DO NOT POST YOUR CRAPPY / BLURRY / UNESSENTIAL PICTURES

SORRY TO BE BLUNT BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

IF YOU POST SLOPPY CAMERA PHONE PICS = YOUR POST WILL NOT BE APPROVED

IF YOU POST YOUR PICTURES WITH NO INNER TAG TAGGED AND DATED (within 3 days) = YOUR POST WILL NOT BE APPROVED

IF YOU POST WEB CAM PICTURES = YOUR POST WILL NOT BE APPROVED

IF YOU POST LESS THAN THE PICTURES REQUIRED = YOUR POST WILL NOT BE APPROVED

IF ALL YOUR PICS AREN'T PAPER TAGGED AND DATED (within 3 days) = YOUR POST WILL NOT BE APPROVED.

^I see what you're saying. I think your idea would be a good addition to the re-organization. clean pictures on top of clean threads would be A+

this. i fuckin hate when people dont throw pictures into their thread when they are selling stuff. it doesnt do anyone any good to see it. just wait to make the thread till you have pics

how hard is it to make the forum pages longer, i.e. more thread listings per page? I feel like i have to go back at least 5 pages to just go back a day or so. bigger pages just means a little scrolling, and threads wouldnt get bumped out of the first page within like 45 minutes, i guess?

i like this idea, it really supports the fact that some organization is in order. there are simply too many random threads. if they were organized into subcategories, there would not be as many piles upon piles of threads on the 1st page within 45 mins etc.

also needs to go

idiotic feeler threads

ie

"i have a xxxl ignant vest. just want to see how much i can get for it. will sell for 300$ or trade for multiple other pieces of jiberish"

for a while we had a strict no flipping rule, and that seems to have gone by the wayside

I agree. WTB threads are out of control and they don't really help anybody out.

Searching would be way more efficient if people wrote exactly what they're selling in the title, not just "pow skis" or "big ass sale".

sometimes ppl just browse for deals on anything, not buy boots or skis. the way it is is good. but there should be a search with criteria that the seller puts in. ((like a special search bar)) so you have both, and all you mods, dont touch anything, just set it up for the future.

and for the random stuff sales. the thread could show up in more then one of the search criteria ((mini fourms))

im feeling that the random shit will take over the others fourm and tht one will be like 20x bigger then any other, so make the criteria items properly.

IMO selling on this site is AWESOME just not organized.

hope sp is good.

maybe at least separate them by days. separate categories based on DAY of post, i find myself reviewing threads that i have already looked at and was uninterested

...or make it more like Craigslist. Above the BST forums, add a searchbar that searches the body of the post. I like the organization idea of Hardgoods/Softgoods/WTB. If people have multiple items to sell, they can place all of their hardgoods in one thread in the correct category, all of their softgoods in one thread in one category. More work for users but in return they get lightyears simpler navigation. Not to mention that at least one of their threads is mor likely to get noticed.

In terms of posting, I want to see a Craigslist-like photo uploader separate from the site's uploader. This eliminates the issue of people posting all of their pictures in public photo albums. No matter how you tell them to privatize their photos, they will not do it. This solves that problem. Require at least two photos in each sale.

Eliminate the GUI editor and use a simple HTML one instead. Often having HTML makes text input a lot more flexible.

With a searchbar that searches the body of the post, not the title, tagging/keywords for threads could be put at the bottom of the post at the seller's discretion. If he doesn't want his thread noticed, he wouldn't tag it. But obviously most people would recognize the inherent value of such an opportunity to tag your threads.
