Butterfly Effect

Well since the last Astin Kutcher movie I saw was 'Just Married' there was no way this could be worse. Actually I enjoyed this movie. Some of my friends commented on how they thought that they kind of took the audience as not that intelligent because they made the phemenon very easy to understand. But I thought the suspense lied in the all the scenarios that could happen next. Anyway... I thought this movie good, but I couldn't relax during any part of the movie... very anxious.

butterfly effect looks pretty good. and its ashton kutcher*

I am not going to spend any money to see Ashton Kutcher try to do something good. Because that's impossible.

not if you are using good as a noun, in which case an adverb would make a sentence nonsensical

It was a really good movie. Ashton did a really good job. there was some humor to lighten it up that seemed to fit somehow with the dark, suspensful, threatening atmosphere of the movie. The plot was amazing and everything fell into place well. The amosphere was really there and when I had to go piss during the middle of the movie I ran in and out of the bathroom for two reasons. First I didnt want to miss anything and second I was scared the world would start shaking and I would turn around and see a kid with a knife behind me. Great movie one of my favorites.

Lineboarder...everythings better when your high, ever listen to music while high??

Ashton Kutcher can't play a serious part in your mind if you've seen that 70's show, Punk'd, Dude wheres my car, etc... and I won't believe it was better than Donnie Darko which had better actors, plot, but wasn't the greatest movie either though.

-Pat

I wasn't 'hating' on the film, just ashton kutcher, who has never done anything to make me think he has any kind of talent.

Yeah all Ive got to say is that you just have to see it thats all... maybe they could of gotten a better actor then ashton... but he did a damn good job. and yes, i have been smoking pot for like 8 years now ( not trying to brag) so i think ive listened to music once or twice... but anyways, p-jo, check it out.. i think u'll like it. Donnie darko was on a different level then butterfly effect, but i just cant get over this movie.. maybe i need to see it for a second time, to really see if i have these same feelings

On second thought, this shouldve been posted in here...

Mr. Cranky's rating: consistently annoying

There's a quote at the beginning of this film regarding chaos theory: specifically, the idea that a butterfly flapping its wings can cause a catastrophe on the other side of the world. This film is one such catastrophe.

Those who enjoy something that gets to the point will have better luck watching a chess match between Andy Dick and Stephen Baldwin. Directors Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber (it takes two people to make something this bad?) start by focusing on the tragic childhoods of Evan and his sweetheart Kayleigh. When Evan (Kutcher) grows up and life hasn't turned out quite right for him or Kayleigh (Amy Smart), he realizes that the blackouts he had as a child are actually the key to traveling back in time to alter the present.

Though this plot makes about as much sense as a George W. Bush State of the Union address, the directors hardly sweat the details. Exacerbating the confusion at my screening was the distracting sound of cracking neck vertebrae as Kutcher fans watched the concept of chaos theory sail right over their tiny heads.

Each time Evan changes the past, it produces increasingly frustrating results. Kayleigh leads a troubled life and no matter what Evan does, his efforts don't make things better. In one particularly disturbing sequence, Evan returns to the present to find that he's dating Demi Moore. Evan's final solution is truly a message for our times: Do nothing. Do yourself a favor if you're considering seeing this one: Take the film's advice.

Whatever, the plot made plenty of sense. I found it quite clear. The point of this movie is not to say that this is scientifically possible. It is fiction, and if you for some jaded reason you're going to see it to find out if something like this is real... then you have been smoking something.

J.D. May, this is one of the first times I really diagree with you.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

well JD's post just sums it up huh...... the douche bag critic who wrote that has either to much time on his hands, or has to realize that movies are fucking movies. Jesus christ, how much better can movies get? All these critics as for way to much.. butterfly effect was fucken dope, period

I am a media studies major as well, and I basically watch and critque movies all day long. Critics need to get more in touch with the way movies are actually done, i.e. screen shots, transitions, camera angles and realize sometimes shit like this can make a great movie, even if a 'critic' didn't like the plot......... this shit just pisses me off

Different people get different things out of movies. Some people like plots, some like continuity, some like historical accuracy, some like action, some like explosions. Just because a movie has good camera angles doesn't mean everyone should like it.

Yeah I am not saying that just because the camera angles, and the way it was shot, people should like it because of this. I just really liked the way they did this movie, I dunno I thought it was creative. it seemed as if there was like 15 different movies in one, you kept wanting to see what happened in each scene. Like when he was in the prison, and stabbed the dudes in their shit with the knives, and then it just cut to another scene. it kept u on ur edge the entire movie, and I think that this should be took into major consideration. There was not one point in that movie where I checked my watch to see how much longer the movie was going to be, if anything I would look at the time because I wanted the movie to be 2 more hours

now I have to see this shit just to judge it for myself

'And shepherds we shall be, for thee my lord for thee, power hath descended forth from thy hand. That our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine patrie, Et fili spiritu sancti'-Boondock Saints

butterfly effect is ok, if you a girl who wants ashton kutcher, other than that it was alright,

Why the hell does everyone hate on ashton. Hes a good actor, hes not a dumb kid, and hes starting to get into some meaningful acting.

Well, in everything he has been in up to this point has been complete typecasting. It's hard for him to disassociate himself with preconceptions on what he will be acting like.

^ true.. but this movie has def put an alter on his image... if enough people, and the right amount of people see this movie... he will be in tons more meaningful, or strong character based movies, instead of his MTV bullshit

ok, this thread wasnt here when i made my thread...

Definately a good movie, there was no possible way u could relax, because the director makes u think something is always gonna happen. When it doesnt, u start to relax, then all of a sudden, blamo.

I was pretty bored with the movie, we considered walking out. I found it the ending was fairly obvious, but I expected it to end with him in the hospital in the end. The real ending seemed like such a copout.

shit thats surprising.. but hey, each to his own u know.. not everyone is going to like something..... so what movies do u think were done well then...? I am mad critical too thats why

The ending wasnt the ending. If you think about it, then the actual ending never happenned. I saw the ending 2 ways. He stayed at the hospital, and the ending was just in his head. The doctor said something about it, if u recall, that he cannot go through another one of those episodes, and his brain was allready fucked. The second theory i got, was that everything was in his head to begin with. He just had flashbacks, and created different personalities in his head, which was in a book i read before.
