Busted up knee

I've been skiing for a few years now, this being my 4th year ever stepping into skis, and my friend and I have been getting into park and actually progressing. A few days ago I tried my first 3 off of a little jump at my hill, landed it and about pissed myself because the realization that getting better IS possible, but then our other friend was like dude hold on let me film you, tried it again, didn't get enough air off of it and landed 270ish, my left knee buckled i felt a huge ass pop and fell straight over stopped in my tracks started screaming like a bish. I think I tore my MCL, idk really but I go to an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to see what's up with it because when I went to the ER the night of busting my knee the X ray said the bones are fine. Probably get an MRI at the ortho.

Just a few questions like

Right now it doesn't hurt that bad and I want to take off this knee immobilizer thing and try bending it and shit, but I don't wanna fuck it up worse. Should I not rush anything?

For anybody that's busted up their knee/ankle/etc. something that was pretty severe, how did you take it? I've never hurt my knee but I hear a lot of people say that knee injuries screw people for life because they can get re-injured and stuff because they're never the same.

How cautious should I be after the doctor "clears" me to do shit again? Is progressing in park and freeskiing done for me because my knee got busted up? Knee brace for days?

hearing a pop is never good. last time i heard a pop i tore my acl. take it easy for now, your doc will tell you every thing you need to know. i will tell you if you have surgery get strong before and even stronger after. you may or may not need a brace. my doc told me he would like for me to wear one when working more than skiing because i work on a boat and he said it is very uncontrollable unlike skiing you can always turn down your level of shred.

Try rubbing some pharmaceutical grade DMSO and using some traumeel creme. DMSO is very absorbent and you need to have clean skin before applying as it will draw in any impurities. I ordered some from dmso.bz.

I hurt my knee pretty bad once, and it was really swollen, but nothing popped. I'm not sure what happened, the ski went sideways in the air but my body stayed straight - and my knee took the twisting pressure.

That's one reason why I designed my own skis - I wanted my body pointing in the same direction my ski was going. Anything else to me now looks and feel retarded. Then when you do that, you don't need poles.

just listen to your doctor and do pt and you will be fine. no matter what do not return to action before youre cleared. and when you do just get back into the groove before trying new things. especially since youre new to skiing i doubt you have perfect form, so work on technique.

straight air jumps and just get comfortable in the air. do tweaks, daffys, even little stupid tricks like that are a lot harder than you think if youre not balanced. then really focus on how you land, centered, flat to your feet and solid.

go to the gym please. so many people in skiing are too damn lazy to lift weights but it will make a world of difference, especially basic knee balance and strengthening exercises.

he did land backseat on a twisting fall so thats never good..best of luck my dude

popping usually means acl. I tore mine, missed all of last season and am back this year. as long as you rehab and work out your legs you should be all good. Even tho my knee gets sore after I ski sometimes, I still have learned some new tricks that when I was skiing before my injury I couldn't do. so nah man you'll be back and you can still progress. good luck dawg

Wtf legit this exact same thing happened to me last weekend... but i was trying blind 270s out, didnt rotate enough and upon landing my knee buckled, felt a pop, etc... and it turns out i strained my MCL. I was thinking about making a thread asking the same thing but, pretty crazy.
