Hey guys. I am going to be going to champlain college next year and I was wondering if you guys would like to post things you know about it. So far I have been twice and I love it. Anyone on here that goes to champlain or UVM? I dont know anyone there right now so im trying to make some contacts before I go out there for 4-5 years. Thanks guys

Burlington is hands down the greatest college town on the east coast. Yes, I am aware of how big a claim that is given how many awesome college towns there are out here. No, I do not take it back. Burlington is the shit. Go to UVM though. Not everyone from Champlain is bad, but the population breakdown goes pretty much like this...

45% Hardcore E-Gamers

40% Kids who smoke way too much weed and never do anything else

10% Anime lulz

5% Kids who are actually worth hanging out with

This is a generous estimate.

^kids spot on, i live right next to champlain campus, i gag everytime i go there to eat (free mealplan score) or drive by cause of all the tools in tightpants and all the gamers. i know 2 kids who go there that are cool.

dan villaire and jeff curry perhaps?but the plus side is all the loser gamers sit in their dorms so you are free to score all the hot chicks, which there are plenty of at CHamplain and UVM

I've seen a scattered population of attractive women at Champlain but your odds are much, much better at UVM.

Haha damnit. Im not going to champlain for games though. Im going there for the business program and for UVM being right next to it. I liek the dorms at champlain though. It looked like there were alot of nerds there though... UVM seemed legit. I just love the business program at Champlain

Im in the business program at UVM. I'm actually sitting in Marketing Communications right now. It's pretty legit. I don't know much about Champlains program tho. Burlington's mad fun.

burlington is so sick, center of skiing on the east coast. one of the sickest cities i've been too, up there with boston

Burlington is full of dirty hippies and nudists. The only cool thing about the Burlington area is the lake, the mountains, and Shelburn Farms. Burlington is sooo overrated. Aside from that, its a pretty cool place.

Burlington is the chillest town i've ever been to. If it wasn't for all the dirty hippies, it would be heaven. I go to uvm by the way.

Burlington is no doubt a beautiful place. Like any college town it has its advantages/ disadvantages.
Advantages:1) Landscape2) Proximity to skiing3) Excellent restaurants for a smaller city
Disadvantages:1) Self righteous hippies (see: City Market)2) Very insular social climate3) Terrible job market (especially right now)
Your opinion on it is all relative. I am from Burlington area so I am sick of it, but it's okay for now. Out of state kids tend to love it here. Not that different than any other college town b/c kids are into the same shit anywhere you go. A lot of local kids never want to leave b/c its not a socially realistic place. Many of the people that live up here believe that they honestly know all there is to know about life and would never leave. If you're from a big city, it would be a great place to escape to.

yola dude. i go to champlain and it's pretty sick. it is true that the e-gamer count is pretty high, but outside of campus i rarely see them. since UVM is right there as well you can meet tons of people and quite a bit of partying.

it's pretty relax though, not really many douche type people around. and try getting an apartment off campus.

B-towns pretty sick. Ive lived here for close to 3 years now. Its got a great night life and it's a really safe city. dont worry about meeting people, you will. Unfortunately tho you will have to do this by participating in what I like to call the "giantfuckinghordesoffreshmen" that wander around looking for parties. do yourself a favor tho and stagger your group in, no one is going to let 20 kids into there house at once.

the fact that your best example of BTown not being safe is a murder from several years ago... basically you just proved his point.

That doesn't get into the problem with sexual predators, pedophiles, thefts, and drug deals gone bad that burlington has experienced. Don't get me wrong, its not like there are murderers and rapists prowling the streets looking for blood, but it is a typical urban area. It isn't a paragon of safety.

im just saying it's reletively safe, i'm not advocating for a young girl to walk alone at night... still be smart. but for a guy like me 5'11" 175lbs, i'm not too worried. If some bum comes at me i'm gonna smoke him in his bum face.

us UVMers will affectionatly call you guys camp champ. You are kind of in UVM's shadow, but as I've come to learn over the years from people I've worked with that go to Champlain, you guys are legit for graphic design, public communication and relations, a lot of good alums have come out of your school, especially in the action sports industry.

and of course I can say it enough Burlington is the most fun, beautiful, place to live. pm me if you have more questions.

hahaha sooo true. i love how every single fall friday and saturday night there are packs of freshman wandering around and its so dreadfully obvious. definitely split yourself up or you WILL NOT get in.

hahaha i was going out with like 2 buddies to some frat party right at the begining of the year and all of a sudden there was a mob following us, and i was talking to my buddy about peacing and going back to my place.

soon as i say that a car full of kids rolls by and yells "YOOOOOO WHERES THE PARTY AT FRESHMAN"

just made me mad haha i have my own car and place fuck that shit.

I used to go to champlain college got kicked out. the kids there are all pretty cool with the exception of the e tards. you will have to take this core classes that will make you want to shoot your face off. but for the city itself for sure it's my fave place on the east coast it's prolly why you catch me there at least once a month on a visit from plattsburgh

burlington is sick, such a nice town and i can see it being an amazing place to go to schooli don't go to either but from the time i've spent in burlington the uvm kids are way cooler and more normal than the champlain kids

i grew up in burlington and have lived there my whole life, and there alot of misconceptions being thrown around in this thread. there arent that many dirty hippies....50 percent of those are the college students who think they are hippys because they go to UVM. i dont really notice the hippys much. it is an amazing town...never gets boring. always a parrty to be gone too.

Burlington is the shit. you will love living here, or at least i do. I came from a small ct town and really dont like cities that much, but burlington is barley a city to me. its pretty gnarly, get up here before the snow melts

This is awesome guys this is so helpful keep going. Im learning alot about the Real burlington not just what they say on the tour.

Burlington is a pretty sweet place. i've been here for five years and love it.

I know lots of kids that love champlain. Go there if you know what you want to do and its one of their specialties. Dont if you have no idea and are just feeling it out.

Burlington itself is amazing. Most people are very nice, even the hippies.

Just make sure you explore outside f burlington, especially in the summer. Too many college kids get here and never reap the benefits of living so close to the green mountains champlain and the dacks. I was luck in the sense that i met some local kids from the area and learned all the swimming holes, cliff spots, and other outdoor fun. i honestly can say that even as a skier, i think burlington is better in the summer. Not that winter sucks, but there is just an amazing amount to do in the summer.

except it has the population of a medium-large town, its wicked cold, its icy, it gets less than half the snow, its tallest building is a church, and the closest real cities (albany, manchester, and portland) are at least 150 miles away.

the mountains get all the snow which is all that matters anyway... and if you cant handle a month of ice and cold you should live in new england at all. also, the fact that it's tallest building is a church is a HUGE plus to those who dont like the vibe of dirty fast-paced cities with no fucking beautiful view of lake champlain and mountains on either side.
burlington is amazingggg

omg dude champlain is such a chill fuckin school i have a friend that goes there right now and i visited her a couple weeks ago and am going back this weekend cause i had such a great time! their dorms are fuckin sweet(at least the ones i went to, its like a huge house made into dorms) and all the kids i met were mad nice and laid back.half the kids in her dorm were there for video game design so they had every sysytem and game imaginable. good fuckin choice is all i have to say. fuck yeah now im super excited to go back!

and after reading the whole thread after i posted above, yes most of them smoke alot, and yes you will have the girls to yourself most likely hahha but ive had nothnig but good experiences while i was there. while i was there though i heard that UVM hate the Champlain kids or something?idk

being a local, i would have to see i love the fast-paced grittier city vibe. and not all cities are like that at all... US cities maybe but MTL and Toronto are two of the cleanest cities i have ever seen. The thing is Burlington is nice to visit for a few years but don't get too used to it. The job market sucks right out of college and unless you want to be poor, it's a good idea to move into reality for a little while.

As much as I love Burlington, this is completely true. You pretty much are not going to be able to live here after college Period. Even getting a part-time job DURING college is really hard right now here (not sure, may be like that other places too, just saying). It is just such an amazing college town though... so many colleges are here - Champlain, UVM, CCV, St. Mike's is close, the place feels like its run by college kids sometimes.

And Kevtron, did you stay in the International House on Maple and S. Prospect by chance?

truth...i have been trying so hard for the past couple of months to find a second part time job and it's impossible! anyone have any work for me?

burlington's pretty nice. It's better than your average place. There are a few smackheads around though, but other than that it's pretty nice. The hippies are alright and the hobo's are suprisingly bearable and don't all smell like piss, vomit, and alcohol...but some of the hippies do

(ive lived in vt for 10 years)
