Bungee - The mobile setup tutorial

Hey guys, have you looked at the Banshee Bungee system and said

"Wow I really want that... Oh damn that's expensive!"

Well I set out a couple weeks ago to make my own, and well I forgot to document it I will try to describe and depict the process as well as I can.

Step 1: Materials

I am a biker and with biking comes tires and in tires are tubes, these are what i used for the actual bungee.

Start out by cutting your tubes in half (these were road bike tubes) so that you have two continuous loops like this. With mountain bike tubes u should be able to get 3 lengths

Step 2: Starting process

You will make this a bungee by braiding it.

Start this process by putting a caribener connecting three tube loops at the bottom.

Then secure the caribener to a poll and started braiding.

Braiding is done by using three separate pieces, and starting with either side, pull the "outside" piece into the middle. Make sure you pull everything as tight as you can.

Step 3: Adding more length

To get the length you need you will need to add more tubes.

To do this loop the new tube through the old tube and pull it through its self like so.

Also this is something like what your braids should look like so far.

Keep adding additional length as desired and making sure you are keeping it tight.

When you have the length you need leave a small amount un-braided.

Step 4: The handle

For the handle use a nice piece of Pvc that feels good in your hands.

I purchased this at Home Depot because they sell 2 foot lengths of various diameter pipes.

You will also need two Pvc end-caps, two hose clamps, and some rope.

Cut the pipe to be about a foot and a half long.

Measure the rope so you have about one and a half the length of the pipe plus extra, so about 2 1/4 feet.

Then find a drill bit just barely bigger than your ropes diameter and drill a hole in each end-cap.

Put the rope through the centers of the barely un-braided tubes and each end through a Pvc endcap.

Tighten the hose clamps around the rope and test to make sure they don't come off.

Place the end caps on the pvc and twist and push them on hard, they should be very snug.

Center the bungee in the middle of the rope.

Your finished!

Here is what my final product looked like.

i made about a seven foot bungee and it seems to stretch nicely

I haven't been able to try it yet as we have no snow but i think it will give you a fair amount of speed

Hate the thread steal...but yesterday in Connecticut a new bungee system was revealed that is 1/5 the cost of a banshee bungee and works much more effiiciently. Video to come. Hold up for details!

wow dude, that was mad helpful! haha i already built something kinda like this but +++karma for the effort put into the thread. and for those who were asking, yeah it actually works pretty well

i know with our design you could. we hit urban with it the other day. worked good. we are thinking about releasing the design within the week. just working out details

i hate like quaddrouple posting ... but you built that system ... so would it be a product u actually buy..... or would u just share ur knowledge with fellow nsers on how to build ur system lol

we are not sure what we are doing right now. should be up in a few days. we are talking with lawyers and seeing ramifications of selling. also thinking about just selling to friends. hard to say at this time

ok well thanx im looking foward to whatever happens this plan. And not to sound like a creaper but ive skied with you and a bunch of kids at whaleback this summer lol

for me the cost of pvc

but it depends on if you can find tubes

try a bike shop and ask em if u can have em or dont ask but i didnt tell u that here

unforuntately we wont be selling them any more. it was going to be too much of a libaility for us. pm me for link to the bungee you can buy and try to make yourself if you want...ha

this looks like it would work really well... i've got a feeling my rents would have a cow if i tried to make some big ass drop in, and i think this might be able to do the job for my purposes just fine

You could also do it like this...

"I just braided up two bungees, each is about 12 feet long. From what I

can tell its the same thing as the banshee bungee, maybe a different

type of braiding. I'm no expert of creating rope, but the way I've put

it together we were able to stretch it out a ton and have no problems.

The next thing i have to do is figure out how to attach a handle to one

end and a rope to the other, so that the rider has something to hold

and we have something to tie to the anchor at the other end. I'm

heading home tomorrow, so I'll get a some heavy duty rope and try to

find something for the handle.

"

"I used 3/16" inner diameter with 3/32" walls, so the overall

diameter is 3/8". I braided three lengths of about 17 feet together to

get a rope that's about 12 or 13 feet long."

I take no credit for this, not my plans.

I never thought of surgical tubing, my not so good one is made from this bungee rope stuff, so I might switch that out for surgical tubing, For a handle you can use a dowel or some sort of PVC.

with the surgical tubing how are you supposed to attach a handle securely? and same with a hook/ carabiner on the other side?
