Building a small booter.

I wanna bout a ten ft gap and i picked out a good steepish landing. Were east coast, so there's about 2ft of snow thats packable, a thin layer of ice, and then about 2 inches of pow on top (and this has been a good winter) This will be the first jump I ever try so I need a little help. Is it best to pile up snow and then shape a jump? How will I know the thing will hold weight or be sturdy enough to spin off of? (i know noob question)..... thanks for the help
sparknotes: small jump.... what's the best way to build?

I never build big jumps or anything, but just throw the snow into a pile and then hit it down with your shovel for a while. You don't have to smack it terribly hard if your not dealing with like straight up powdery stuff. Get some hard snow or big chunks of snow to build up the lip to make it sturdy. Ride up to the lip and see if you get on the lip on the middle of your skis without it breaking. You will be able to tell if it is sturdy enough to go off. Have fun.

Thanks +K.... whattabout water, i saw a vid where they oured water on it so it would freeze. Is this only for jibs?

That's what i do. It's quick and efficient I wouldn't bother pouring water on it, it will just be a lot of trouble that you don't really need to go to.

thanks again... I love this site. I dont know if bricks will work bc we dont have a to of snow. ill post some pics if it turns out real pretty

just pile up snow, shape to desired size. once it hardens you can clean up the sides so it looks nice. i either salt of water sometimes to keep my stuff nice, both seem to work well for me

If the snow will hold then definitely use bricks. The bricks allow you to have a sturdy jump all the way through, and a consistently wide width from top to bottom. When you pile up snow it will be much thinner at the top than bottom, and using bricks eliminates this.

As for water, use it if you plan on hitting the jump a lot, or more than just one day.

Hope this helps!

just make lots of snowmen and than pile up the balls..than pat it down....hit the jump wit steeze and ride away like a thug

yeah i have a snowskate / ski park in my backyard that i made with my freinds. i live on the east cost to ..what i do for jumps is pile up twice as much snow high and wide as u want the jump to be...then pack it all down and it should be the right size ... but wait i no u like just made a new jump and all but dont hit it you will ruin it no mater how hard u pack it... let it sit for a night so it will freeze and pack itself more densley ...then the next day you should be ready to shred it
