BSA to allow gay youth

I'm an Eagle Scout too. I personally don't have any problem with having gay scouts. The leader part is probably for he better. It's interesting though since scouts pledge to be morally strait

Idk the board's exact reasoning, but keep in mind their HQ is in the middle of Texas and they're most likely homophobes. Too many cases of leaders sexually abusing scouts in the past to take the chance, I guess.

They're worried about gay scouts and leaders and how many leaders have been in trouble for pedophilia??? Yeah, makes total sense.

Not necessarily at all, but in the same way you don't send a 40 year old man out to camp out with a bunch of 10 year old girls alone.

I never said that. It's pretty clear why it's a rule, as stated above you wouldn't send a 40 year old strait guy on a campout with a bunch of 14 year old girls.

My brother is an eagle scout! anyways ya this is cool because our generation is changing and we need to adapt to modern culture

Im an Eagle scout and idk if it is a good idea. A lot of troops chartered organizations are churches or places like that and some of these places wont be the chartered organizations if openly gay scouts are allowed. So the troop wont have a place to have their meetings and stuff. I personally dont have a problem with it, but idkif its a good idea.

I'm not gay, but I have a problem with scouts. And what's the big deal anyways most scouts are fruits anyways

The Boy Scouts of America get money from congress and in many ways special treatment so they should not be allowed to discriminate. Peoples arguments against this are really unfounded.

I think you have some botched info... I've heard that BSA's charters are 1/3 church-sponsored, not 1/3 Mormon.. here on the EC there is not many Mormons at all

Don't really want them in my troop to be honest. Plus i'm also in a venture troop outside of my actual BSA troop, and i'm in that until i'm 21, good thing it's invite only.

I can agree with this. I don't really see a big difference between straight scouts and gay scouts, they're all pretty lame. There's really nothing taught throughout scouts that isn't complete common sense or something a parent can tell you. The only thing you're really getting out of it is an appreciation for the outdoors, and even that is more of a have or have not depending on your circumstances.

By which you mean yourself as well as one other member. The reason a leader can't be gay is because they are alone around little boys all the time, and they don't want kids getting molested in scouts. Obviously not every gay leader is going to molest a kid, but it sure is going to reduce the chance at the ever happening. It's not a hard concept

As an Eagle Scout I knew many gay kids along the way and unlike most people think they won't be attracted to you and they are awesome people a fellow friend and also an Eagle Scout is gay an I have yet to find any thing wrong. As for leaders it's a little bit different of a story I feel

So by that logic no grown man should be able to camp with small girls?? Just excuse your gay doesn't mean your a rapist...

something like 90% of child abuse is performed by straight men. if someone would be a good troop leader, let them be a troop leader. chances are they wouldn't be gay anyways, doubt many gay kids would make it 10+ years in bsa anyways

Other than BSA troop, I'm also in a Venture troop (Not that you know know what Venture is...) But venture is co-ed. So I don't get what gender has to with this..... Or how much money you have, or... Anything you're talking about?

It would be better if you just stopped posting in this thread, I'm actually a scout which is why i'm voicing my opinion on the matter.
