Broken Fibula

So almost 7 weeks ago now i came down on the tramp funny and it caused a spiral fracture to the distal end of my fibula. I was no weight bearing for 5 weeks and now i am pretty much walking around normally, just with a walking cast. I am suppose to be going to momentum this week to ski, the doctor said i would be fine but i am still i tad skeptical. I do not want to re brake it. I have almost full range of motion back, and no pain aside form some muscle stiffness. Anyways do you guys think it will be alright to ski if I take it real easy? Have any of you guys broken your fibulas like I did, and if so, how long were you out till you were back skiing?

this

doctors are very precautionary, if it was ANYTHING to worry about, he would tell you.

i broke my collar bone skiing once. then it didnt heal and i broke it again when i was drunk. and again when i was drunk again.

moral of the story, brontosauruses have long necks so they can reach tree stars.

I spiral broke my femur in the center of the bone while skiing. Didnt recover in time to ski that season, but I was definitely out there next season. The fibula is a pansy bone.

aaannndddd this is right about where you should have thought to yourself, "Self, why the fuck am I making this thread?" closed NS, and gone outside for a while.

I broke my fibula a few years back. I got the okay just like you did but still wasn't feeling 100%

The key is to just take it slow, the muscle is tight and weak and will gain flexibility and strength in a little time.

This is pretty much right on, but I have a friend who broke his fibula, the doctor said he could play soccer again-first day back playing he re-broke it.

A few years ago I broke my tibia and fibula during September. Had surgery and physical therapy. Was in a hard cast and boot for a few months. I started skiing that February. My ankle still wasn't 100%. I skied with a good amount of pain the rest of the season. Ended up getting new boots fitted for my one normal ankle and one jacked up ankle, which helped. It still hurts every time I put my boots on though. I doubt I'll ever have a pain free day of skiing.

Yea this. My friend got the OK form his doctor after a broken collar bone, went back skiing and broke it almost immediately. Thats just why I'm a little skeptical.

I had something similar with my broken tibia. The last time I went to the doctors I told him that I was getting a new tramp soon and wondered if it would be ok to use it. Basically he said that there was no chance of it re-breaking and I could do whatever I wanted. Tramp ended up being back ordered, a month later it showed up and I put it together. First day was fine, second day my friend came over to try it and after about an hour I re-broke my leg in the same spot. It definitely does suck to go through it a second time but I am pretty much back to the point I was just before I re-broke it. I would say just be careful and if it starts to hurt at all just stop for a while.

Your friend must have been an idiot. Just cause you're OK'ed doesn't mean you can come back charging hard the first day... Broken bones take time to heal, and usually when you're ok to do stuff, it's assumed that you know not to be a fucktard and to take it easy.

I broke my fibula and fibula, bones recovered great. Except i got this rare syndrome called compartment syndrome. Lost all blood flow to my leg. Almost died in the hospital, then almost lost my leg. They cut open both sides of my leg and left them open for 2 months. 8 months later just started walking and in shoes. Plan on going skiing in october. but if you ever have uncontrollable pain in your leg, and no clear symptoms. Go to the hospital immediately, compartment syndrome is unnoticeable by the clear eye. but in less than 36 hours amputation may be needed. don't be stupid but just a warning. i lasted 90 hours of it and live to ski another day. good luck bro.
