Broken Back

Hey guys,

So i fractured my l4 vertebrae last season and was out from march until july (bed rest with light activity). I was cleared to ski by my doc and have gotten in 7 days, i also teach as well. I need suggestions for like a spine protector or something so if i smash my ass on a rail i dont get paralyzed so it'd be awesome if i could get some recommendations.

Also, if anyone has had a similar injury i'd love to know how you deal/dealt with it. I don't plan on stopping skiing but i'm really hesitant to throw tricks and shit now. Thanks for being awesome

Keep on slayin it,

Aidin

I cracked my, l something or other. Can't remember the number. I used to know what it is but now all that's coming to mind is the long johns taco bell menu.

Anyway I didn't let it heal right and now it's kind of fucked. Surprisingly doesn't bother me that much. I gotta be careful lifting shit(that could be other shit wrong with my back) but the spot where I fucked it up looks like "an old lady with osteoporosis" according to a doctor when I was getting scoped out for something else, maybe another back injury.

That said I'm retarded and do stupid things when I shouldn't. Out for the season? I'll just come back in a few weeks and only shred groomers, nbd, 2 runs on groomers lets hit the park cause I'm bored I won't try anything, a couple straight runs let me try stupid things like flips off tree jibs, oh shit I felt hard into the woods = I'm an idiot noob and never listen to anything I say.

I don't have any idea how good it is but I know POC makes good protective gear.

I own the Poc back protector and it's pretty solid. Saved me a few times from busting my back falling on rocks after hitting cliffs and stuff. It only protects from blunt impacts so don't expect it to stabilize your back at all.

Thanks, i'm not really looking for a stablizer blunt (lolol obligated 420 reference) impact is what i'm really worried about because that's how i fucked up my back before.

I broke my t7-t8 last December.

Was given a Slytech back protector and have already tested it several times this season. It's comfortable, flexible, and seems to breathe well(we'll see in the spring..

Haven't used anything else, but this on serves my purpose well.

All that said, once the muscles came back, I don't feel limited at all..Still constantly sore, but I hear that'll be a lifelong thing now.

I'm just doin my best to ignore it.

Dont really know a lot about this stuff, but Wallisch is on this slytech stuff. Im sure its pretty legit.

Besides the POC's a couple of friends swear by Dainese back protectors, they originally made gear for motorcycle riders, get something that fits well.

POC is the most popular as far as I know, and also has extensions for added protection for upper and lower back (a plate that attaches to the top and another that attaches to the bottom).

Some people like SlyTech a lot, apparently it's really comfortable, but it's softshell so I would be hesitant to trust it. Depends if you care more about safety (POC) or optimum comfort (SlyTech).
