Bring back the Old NewSchoolers video player

Can't go straight back, but we're considering switching back from Video.JS (which is what we upgraded to) to JW player 6 (which we used to be on JW5).

So far its looking like this upgrade has been a disaster.

I actually like the look way better, just not the actual playing of the videos haha

Its really the first upgrade that ive disliked

These three things are not unrelated.

I'll clarify.

Its an utter piece of dogshit and I'm really sorry we launched it.

I think it looks really clean, it is just kinda wierd with loading videos and does that thing youtube does where it reloads the whole video when you try to rewind a bit

Its actually not that bad, with a bit of improvement it will be a lot better than the '06 clunky feel of the other one.

I agree the transition has been a little rough but I love the fact that it has 1080p. And I find that the player runs smooth, it just needs a few kinks worked out. It doesn't play full resolution unless I click down to a lower res and then back to the higher. Also sometimes vids don't start on their own but you know that one. Other than that it plays really nice quality.

Good to know, I thought it was just my flash plugin being weird. Man, I've watched that Toyota ad about thirty times on repeat.

Hey everyone -

Just pushed out a big update to the video player. We switched back to using the old one, as well as upgraded to the latest version.

We still anticipate a few bugs, but this should fix a lot of issues.

Please poke around and let us know if its behaving correctly!

Yes! Stoked to try this after class

Please do let us know. Also, anyone else who was experiencing issues please watch a few videos and post up how its acting. q

I would say this player is working considerably better than the last one for me. Thanks for the update!

For some reason, It loads very VERY slow for the first 10-15 seconds, then speeds up considerably after. I've tried the old pause/play trick but that doesn't work. you have to wait the 10 seconds before watching it.

this could just be a problem from me though

Could both of you provide more info please? Browser/OS is a wicked start.

Sorry about that. I think I posted right before I was heading into a meeting.

Using Chrome, the video will buffer the entire way through but will never play no matter how many times I press the play button and/or refresh the page.

Do a force refresh of the page (Click CTRL-R on Windows or CMD-R on mac). Actually I guess I'm assuming that.... are you on mobile perchance?

Adblock?

Also, try updating chrome from the three little horizontal bars menu thing at the top right.

Same behavior on all videos?

Also try the force refresh and ensuring that Chrome is up to date.

Chrome is up to date.

Video players work like Vimeo, and youtube works ok.

Some videos work amazingly even loading faster than Vimeo and youtube, but others, usually more than 7-10 minutes, load very slowly for the first 10-15 seconds then exponentially grow in loading speed.

Like I said before, this could just be a problem for me

If you see a video loading slowly, can you grab the link and post it up here? Bonus points for a couple of videos you notice this on. Could be encoding issues or something like that.

Nope, on a desktop during the day lol

I reinstalled chrome and it's still doing the same thing. I can only watch youtube videos or ones that are embedded. Vimeo won't load at all.

What Operating system and version are you running?

Rough version is OK if you don't know specific.

No like windows, mac... win 7, win 8, OSX - that OS. :)

I actually just saw this on a video, so its helping me track it down.

'new' player works great for me, win 7 64bit.

i think the gradient on the slider looks so 3000-late though - i reckon a solid colour would look heaps better.

Can you actually just try to re-boot for me? Close out the browser, reboot the machine and see if it solves anything.

both vimeo. youtube vids play just fine.

FIrst one atually isn't a video, its a remote embed of Freeskier.

The second one is a Vimeo video in the video section. Can you check if videos are actually working on vimeo.com for you?

Click the vimeo link of that second one and see if you can watch it over there.

Today while watching some mashed potatoes on NSTV I got this error for like a second, then it dissapeared, then it started lagging. So I refreshed the page, seems like that fixed it.

Is NSTV on js video?

Works well for me now (i have shitty internet so i wouldn't be able to tell if slow loading is due to vid player). I'm loving the fact that you can se how much of the video is loaded, really useful.

Haven't rolled out the NSTV update yet, which should come later today or monday. So there might be a sprinkle of wonky behavior in there until we get the update out of beta.

Got it, and its not just you I see it as well. Something is causing that file to be exceptionally big.

Its long and a very high quality, but there might be something wonky in the encoder.

The only thing that I dont like is that videos wont play fullscreen on the NS player mobile, navigation bar of my phone is allways showing.

I can't watch any embedded NS player videos (or Inspired which I think is run through NS player?). The video loads and plays. I can hear the sound but the picture doesn't show up. The videos work if I click through to the original NS video page but not as embeds or on Inspired.

I'm on chrome/chrome OS(chromebook), fully updated.
