I just think its amazing how positively the whole ski community and sports industry in general responded to Gus's coming out. It honestly renews a little of my faith in humanity. Hopefully our society can progress to have this kind of acceptance everywhere.

Idk why everyone is acting surprised with how NS is reacting to this.

Seems like just a couple years ago almost every thread had all sorts of homophobic hate speech. I waited years to join/ post on here for just that reason. Glad things seem to be changing for the better.

Because the amount of homophobic comments I've seen on NS is pretty damn high.

The only person I have ever seen on NS since 2012 be genuinely homophobic is like frenchy, and IDK if he is even a real person.

not really as much NS, although I'm proud to say that we're a pretty accepting community, as much as the rest of sporting. Major companies like GoPro, ski mag, and the X Games all showed immense support, and I just think thats pretty awesome. I honestly haven't heard a single negative thing, and thats great for people who may be nervous about coming out.

They showed all of that support for Gus to get more "support" for themselves. I don't know if it's necessary to turn it into such a big deal. Good for him though, I'm sure it feels good to get that off his back

Stoked for Gus, but not really surprised by the skiing community's response, for the most part, we're a good bunch.

I hadn't thought of it like that... thats kindof makes it less remarkable looking back. I still think its great, because just a few years ago companies would never have said anything pro-LGBT.

It's only 'good for themselves' because they believe the community is accepting of homosexuality- if readers were generally homophobic, showing support wouldn't be a good business move. So, I wouldn't completely dismiss it - I think it shows generally shifting attitudes among younger folks..

That said, response hasn't been all positive (e.g. Terje's twitter).

Also, given that Gus is literally the ONLY major action sports athlete who is openly homosexual while 2-4% of males identify as homosexual, there's almost certainly more athletes out there who don't feel comfortable expressing their orientation.

The real question is, who fucking cares?

Why am I seeing this shit all over my Facebook, do people really care that much about which gender Gus Kenworthy prefers?
