I think we all know that a shop will never replace skis. Everybody says "oh bro they fcked up your skis they owe you a new pair" and then they go talk to the shop and the shops always say too bad. NOW, when I say NEVER, i mean for something like this. They will probably say "You should have told us because we had no way of knowing" and then they'll flip the ski around and remount it. Sucks for OP, but nobody can do anything right anymore, and nobody owns up to their mistakes.

OP, I'm sorry that happened to you, a shop mounted my brand new ON3P's 2 inches back from recommended when I asked for 2cm back from center. And then yelled at me when I called them to tell them they messed up bad. Never got any compensation or even a remount from them. Hopefully the shop makes it right for you

another thing to add to this that EVERYBODY should know before bringing new sticks to a shop...

-do as much you can yourself. this means getting out some tape and writing TIP/TAIL on each ski so this stuff doesn't happen.

-Mark with tape exactly where you want your ski mounted, or you will end up getting mounted 2in behind rec like I did

-write down ON PAPER exactly what you want done and tape it to the ski and take a pic of it, so that if they still mess it up, you have picture proof of what should have been done incase further action is required to make things right
 
Off/on topic. Having to drill holes and mount bindings has to be the one of the most antiquated part of our sport. There’s got to be a better way? I’ve learned to mount my own skis and I’ve done many pairs. But its still a bit of a nervous game.

1-they owe you a new pair of skis

2-I had multiple pairs of skis at a shop this fall, and first pair mounted was mounted with wrong binding, shop owner informed me, I politely told him I absolutely insisted on a new pair and free mount, they instantly agreed and ordered me new skis from my vendor, mounted properly and done
 
If the shop doesn’t replace at least the backwards one I’d do some George Hayduke shit and unplug their computers on the way out.

Maybe even push some shit over.

I agree with you but honestly I think that is a poor thing for the shop to do. $700 skis, drove over 2 hours to go to the “best” shop in the area. Was personally told that their mounter was good after I said I was worried about a bad mount, they carried on3ps just 3 years ago, and they advertise as “experts” in mounting skis.

im not going to be a dick to them, I’m just going to be straight forward for what I want. It sucks being a highschool kid who worked my ass off in the summer to pay for these skis just to have them be screwed up. My family has been going to this shop for roughly 7 years and have bought thousands of dollars worth of gear, I think they can refund at least 1 new ski.

They can get new shoes and sell the mounted pair at a discount so it's not like the shop is taking that big of an L. They probably can reach out to ON3P and mention their confusion with the graphic and possibly even get some financial help themselves in getting a new pair.

What length? I'd snag some cheap never skied before sticks and get a remount Haha

If it makes you feel any better my local shop had to remount my skis 1 TIME and they fucked up and instead of just adjusting the bindings like a normal human they decided it would be a good idea to mount my ski another time in basically the exact same spot. Didn’t find out til my binding ripped out so I went in and demanded new skis and he said it was my fault cuz I didn’t bring it my boot, I just called and told him my BSL. Fucking pussy. I roasted that guy and I live in a small town so I told everybody what happened and last time I heard his business is doing horrible.

That’s fucked, this is a big ski shop and they have multiple stores. I’m sure they are gonna do something, but looking back they tried to hide their fuckit they way they handed me the skis when I picked them up. The one guy knows my family personally so keeping my head up

This. I once had my Blends accidentally mounted at -11. The shop remounted and gave me a coupon for a free wax...

They went out of business a few years later.
 
Is there something wrong with remounting them? One time I forgot to tell the shop I wanted them dead center and they mounted them at the factory recommended. I went in and didn’t throw a fit and just said look my bad, I didn’t specify and they where like we got you and just remounted for me. I am very grateful because that was my fuck up not theirs and they had every right to charge me but they didn’t.

Looking at the mounting patterns you have to flip the ski upside down and the holes are going to be incredibly close

I get your point, but don't know about never. I had a personal experience where a shop fucked up a mount, I could partially see the holes of the first mount under the bindings (plus it wasn't mounted where I wanted them since they fucked up the first mount), so I called them out on it and they immediately apologized and ordered me a new pair that they mounted for free. So it's always worth asking, some shops will definitely do the right thing.
 
If they were trying to hide it they would have remounted the one ski and not told you, not sent you home with the ski clearly mounted backwards.

A decent shop should remount the one ski and refund you for the mount. A good shop I think would do that plus a nice discount on something you need or a bunch of free tunes. A great one would do a new ski, tho it’s not that common.

If the holes don’t overlap and they can do the remount it will still ski good as new, it will just affect the resale value a bit. Anyways I hope you get it all worked out man, those skis are sick!
 
someone posted that ski gear is made so a stoned 20 year old can do it, yeah thoose topsheets are not 20 year old stoned dude proof.

No. Any shop worth their salt will replace the skis. You didn't go full karen enough and that's why you settled for a remount.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but on3p is one of the few brands who has a reliable mount line etched into the sidewall, unlike others that print it. Kinda fucked though. At the very least they should remount and refund for mount cost since the skis are unusable in their current state as they're not totally symmetrical. There's plenty of people on here who have had skis replaced for bad mounts so definitely possible. At the very least op I'd fight for refund of mount + remount + store credit for a few hundred bucks

I’m not too much of a fan of store credit, I rather have them just refund me the price of at least one ski. I contacted both the store and On3p and hopefully once they respond I can figure something out

Quite frankly it is not your job as the customer to ensure the shop does it properly. Whichever stoner tech worked on the skis should take some personal responsibility for his/her fuckup. Shit deal when a shop treats their customer base like that, would be my last time going there that is for sure.

All good things to do, but at the end of the day I'm still of the opinion that if you are a professional tech these types of mistakes should never be made. The customer should not have to tell the tech which way is up for christ's sake. I think this is a larger problem with shops hiring pretty much any stupid 20 year old as a tech, then relegating them to the "easy" tasks like mounting bindings with little training or knowledge.
 
Lmao as a former ski tech, yes you should get brand new skis. There’s no excuse for this and no fixing it by just remounting. Sure, you can mount up to 3 times, but that’s as long as the holes aren’t overlapping and every remount decreases the skis resale value.

100% the techs fault. Mounting skis is fucking easy unless your stoned af or just dumb. While the graphics might run both ways the skis have text under the foot. It’s as simple as making sure that text reads right and you’ll always mount them the right direction. It’s honestly terrifying some of these people mount and adjust skis and are also this dumb.

Raise hell, mention small claims court for the value of the skis plus the cost your time wasted if they don’t fix it. Also never go back to that shop, or if it’s the only shop in your area make sure you know who did the mount and that they NEVER touch your gear again. The job probably got done by someone who is incompetent and there may be someone there who is actually a good tech.
 
I took a pair of skis in and was not planning on using them only for park so I just said "recommended". They mounted the toe piece on the dead center line. I never would have assumed that would be a recommended mount point. i thought it would just be like a cm or two back. Learned then to be extremely specific with where I want the mount to be.
 
lession be learned, go to a shop that actually knows wtf they are doing. Trying to explain that you want your skis mounted at center to a normal shop is like explaining algebra to a toddler. Op get your credit and gtfo. Go find a homie who mounts skis or take a drive to a place where you know they know how to mount skis correctly.
