Brady MVP this year: argue

He was at the top of the pack coming into this week, and after his performance last night, it is hard to argue that he isn't still the frontrunner. Manning has dropped off a cliff and disappeared into thin air with 11 interceptions. The only competition at this point is Rivers, and everyone knows how inept he is in big games. The Chargers were just embarrassed by the Raiders, and Rivers had a mediocre game at best. Going with consistency and just plain dominance, Brady will win the MVP. Stats so far:
Completion Percentage: 66.8...leads NFLTDs: 27...leads NFLINTs: 4...second place behind Vick's 2. Brady has played a longer season and has thrown the ball over 100 times more than Vick.QB rating: 109.5...leads NFL
Manning: has about 600 more yards, but look where he is now
15 INTs24 TDsQB rating: 89.4

Rivers24 tds10 INTs102.5 QB rating
The NFL.com poll doesn't even have Rivers in the running anymore...right now it is Brady, MJD, Matt Ryan, and Vick. Looking at his numbers, I don't think Vick has a chance...he is just fun to watch.

you'd be crazy not to take brady as your big game quarterback, but i find that vick's my favorite to watch. he's hella exciting, and im happy for him. im glad that he's seemed to turn things around and get back on the right track. im a firm believer in second chances, and i like the story that's become of it.

and no, im not going to objectively argue stats, past accomplishments, or anything like that. i just love watching the game, and right now find that eagles games are that one game a week that i just have to watch.

27 TD/4 INT..thats pretty much the only stat that matters, who the fuck cares how many yards other qb's have over brady..they don't have the wins he does

and he gets all those wins with no name recievers

the only one i can even see coming close would be vick because the NFL is pushing his comeback very hard from the rehab angle plus he is absolutely amazing to watch and has led his mediocre team to the top

but since the thread is about brady as the mvp, i don't think anybody has much of an argument about that, unless he completely falls on his face during the final four games, and someone else steps up when it counts most

Couldnt agree more. I hate Brady and the Patriots but Im not blind to the fact that he is the best big game QB in the game. But Vick just lights up the field like no one else and is exciting to watch.

He's probably the best choice right now. And the fact that he is helping his team put out the 2nd best record in the league helps a lot too.

228 passes without throwing an INT right now, as well. Guy is methodically picking teams apart every weekend.

Tom Brady is having the second best year of his career(behind 2007), and look at the teams record.

The peyton manning argument, 11 interceptions in the past 3 weeks, and his teams record takes him out of the conversation.

Micheal Vick is the only other play that i could see challenging Brady for MVP

Agree - I think that if you're looking at statistics, Brady's just going to run away with it. But if you look at who's MOST VALUABLE, it could be a close one. Obviously the Patriots aren't the same without Brady, but the Eagles are just a completely different team with Vick - so explosive. As much as I hate the Eagles (Giants fan), I can't deny that Vick is awesome to watch....
If I had to vote though, Brady takes it.

I might be biased because I'm a huge Eagles fan but I think Vick deserves MVP this year. His stats may not be as good as a couple of the other candidates but you have to take into consideration that he was injured for a couple games. Also factored in should be his rush yards and touchdowns. And throwing only two interceptions at this point in the year is amazing. I think Vick deserves it not only because of his talent on the field but also because he was able to turn his life around and make something positive out of what he did.

i never got why manning is SOOOO much better than brady is. of course he has mad stats during the regular season, but if you take into account that brady has missed 1 year to a freak knee injury, didnt start the first year (not surprising considering his 199th draft-pick-status) and came into the league 2 years later as manning did.

if you calculate the per-season-average (only possible way to compare the two) you get (approximately, and the stats of this season are projected stats):

manning

yds-4,236

tds-30.6

ints-15.5

brady

yds-3,875

tds-29

ints-11.6

additionally, but obvious:

manning 2 SB, 1 ring

brady 4 SB, 3 rings

and dont even start with that "cheating" argument. every team does it to a certain extent and the pats were caught, yeah, big deal, they paid for it and this shouldnt even be an argument.

BOTTOM LINE: manning isnt even superior in reg season stats, from a per-season-perspective and is clearly inferior in regards of the postseason.

SOOOOO

brady > manning

whoever said the patriots have no-name recievers, I would sincerely like to punch you in the face. sure these guys didn't have a big name prior to being with the pats but now guys like branch welker tate and edelman are fucking amazing and are definitely a known threat in the nfl. And as far as Danny Woodhead is concerned, that guy is absolutely ridiculous. I can't imagine what the offense would be like if we had Kevin Faulk playing with these guys.

I never said they weren't amazing receivers dumbass..i was saying they are no name receivers aka if you ask 75% of people that watch football they wouldnt be able to name the pats WR core

but even more to bradys point, he is what makes these recievers great, he is always able to hit them perfeclty in transition and give them huge opportunities for YAC

if you watched sanchez last night he absolutely could not do this, there were many passes were his WR's had to jump and catch the ball or dive to make a play and that was reflected in their very low YAC...just another reason why brady is the best

look at how many attempts Vick has and you will realize that comparing his INT rate to someone like Brady is ridiculous. Vick missed 3 games and thrown the ball over 100 times less than Brady. MVP shouldn't take in past transgressions either, it is all about this season. Give him the most improved award or something, the fact that he was able to turn his life around has no bearing in his eligibility for MVP. He has 15 TDs and nearly 800 yards less than Brady. I'd take Aaron Rogers over Vick.

Brady does make a hard arguement. He is definitely one of the best in the league but I think if you take the term "Most Valuable Player" literally, all stats aside, if you watch Vick his ability to make plays goes far beyond any other qb in the league right now. He may not have as many pass yards or td's but that's because half the time when nothing is open down the field he uses his legs and runs for 30 yards. Idk I give Brady a lot of respect and would understand if he won it but I think Vick really is the MVP this year.

Mannings first season seriously skews the int stat you gave, since he threw close to 30 ints his rookie season, and hasn't come close to doing that since. But all in all, manning is not getting mvp this season. If vick can keep up what he's doing until the end, then the mvp will be his in my opinion. As others have said, the rushing must also be taken into account.

Seriously, you can't just ignore his 6 rush TDs and almost 500 rushing yards. 21 total TDs and only 300 less total yards in 3 less games than Brady, he would have my vote. Though maybe it shouldn't be taken into account, his background story and the fact he wasn't even starting at the beginning of the season are factors me as well.

Brady for sure deserves the MVP award, but i'm not 100% certain that he will. The NFL and its spectators dick ride Michael Vick too hard and it will be tough to give it to Brady over him despite his worser stats. Hopefull Brady wins it though

I'm a die hard pats fan..but did you gruden and the rest of the crew? They had brady and the pats dick so far down their throats i'm surprised they didnt suffocate

Granted the jets blew so hard it wasnt worth talkign about them and the pats never get any press so its about god damn time..but it doesnt seem normal for the pats to be gettign such praise like they did last night...it felt weird to me

Brady sucks dick, how many of his passing yards are from after the catch? All he does is throw one yard passes to Welker but then he takes it 10 more yards.

idk, the vikings (favre, moss, childress,...), titans (young controversy), jets (hard knocks) are teams that had WAY MORE media coverage this year.

Finally someone with a fucking brain. The YAC on the Pats is ridiculous. "He's got crazy accurate passes" yeah, not hard to do when you're throwing it 6 yards.

Michael Vicks numbers are great, and the guy is fun to watch but I just don't see him beating out Brady for the MVP.

Unless the Eagles run the table with the last 4 games and dominate

Week 14

Philly @ Dallas

New England @ Chicago

Week 15

Philly @ Giants

Green Bay @ New England

Week 16

New England @ Buffalo

Minnesota @ Philly

Week 17

Dallas @ Philly

Dolphins @ New England

The patriots wrap up with Buffalo and Miami, which could be easy as cake for them seeing what they did to the Jets, but they are division games and those can always be tough...they do have to play in Chicago and then they will get to see a pretty good Green Bay team.

The Eagles have 3 divison games in the last 4 weeks, Dallas has been playing great and could potentially shock the Eagles next week. With the week following the big division game against the Giants that could decide who is in or out of the playoffs.

So with the scheduel like that for the last 4 weeks, which ever QB steps up and secures the best outcome for his team in the playoffs, I believe will be the MVP.

theres a difference between throwign a six yard pass and properly leading a receiver with a frozen rope so he can catch it with momentum...brady does the latter with perfection and that was displayed last night

you're a fucking idiot if you don't think he's one of the most accurate passer to ever play the game

yeah, and manning got 3 ints in the chargers game i think. pats were up 10 nothiing against the jets so i agree

It's because the defense he has to play against week after week is soft zone coverages because if they don't do that he will burn them deep, no matter what receiver it is so he throws it underneath the zone and guys can run forever, because the defense is still 10 - 15 yards down field.

Then when they decide to play man or press, Brady will take them deep.

He runs that offense flawlessly.

The Redskins fucking suck...Brady just owned what so many people held as the best Defense in a long time. Vick has shined against some overwhelmingly mediocre teams.

Maybe within 10 yards but after that hes average. Espn was all over this "great" td, all he did was under throw Branch, but then Branch did the rest of the work.

Rofl, good point.

The Eagles only have one loss when Vick starts and plays the whole game and I'm pretty sure he hasn't had a game where his qb rating was under 100 this year.

The only ones that think that the Jets D is "best defense in a long time" are the Jets and their dumbass fans. Their defense isn't even top five this year. More like the cockiest defense in a long time.

guys that came out of fucking no where:

Danny Woodhead
Peyton Hillis
Arian Foster.

My MVP Vote: Aaron Rodgers

Woodhead raped EVERYONE in Div 2. EVERYONE. He had 2700 yards rushing in ONE FUCKING SEASON.

Peyton Hillis was good with the Broncs, but I still think he's a fucking redneck talentless dickwipe. I hate the way he runs sooooo much.

Arian Foster really did come out of nowhere. He's almost equaled the amount of yards he had in his best season at Tennessee, and the season isn't ever over.
