i actually watched a special on discovery channel on sunday about this whole situation and all of their ideas and attempted solutions to fix the problem. when the leak happened the crew on the rig tried to activate the mechanisms to stop the off the flow of oil into the ocean but for some reason it didn't work. it's this big thing with a bunch of pressure valves and etc, i forget what it's called and i'm trying to find a clip. two solutions they had were to cut into the main line and put a new pressure thingy on it and that takes generally 6 months or something to build, and then either fill that one with mud or sometihng, and the other was to drill two tunnels to the well to fill them with mud and all kinds of things i'm currently sucking at explaining and that they expected would take 3 months.
a lot of their solutions have probably never been passed by us, not for our approval, but for our knowledge, and i think that it's easy to judge and say hurry the fuck up, but not knowing how long things take or what they have to do is really frustrating and doesn't help a situation.
so, yeah of course i think they're dickheads and i'm supremely pissed about an ocean of dead or dying animals. not to mention if this creates a dead zone, then we can expect more jelly fish rising(according to this other special i watched about jelly fish hahaha)
anyways. i'm trying to find a video to further explain this in less complicated terms!
