Box surface material

So I’ve been learning to weld this year and kinda want to build some backyard rails and boxes. What kind of plastic is used on the surface of boxes? Is it pvc or some other kind of plastic?

1/4in HDPE screwed into 3/4in plywood or just 1/2in HDPE bolted onto the frame of the box

HDPE. But you could do a bunch of skinny pvc pipes next to each other if you want a cheaper option

not sure if theres better stuff but I used a hockey shooting pad and cut it up in sections. works good for me but theres probably better stuff out there
