Here is the frame for my new box. It is 8 ft long and 1ft wide. Think I will need supports to keep it from tipping or will just putting it in snow work?

I'd say put supports on it. If you pack a lot of good wet snow around it it will stay, but that makes it a bitch to move if you have to. If you go with supports you will be much happier and it will be easier. Nice looking box so far.

it sould be good if you put some a horizontally running 2x4 on each end and then just put snow up to the top of the 2x4's and its all good

I got some hdpe 1/2" 1ft by 8ft for $15, can't beat it, so I glued it on a couple hours ago and we're suppose to be getting some snow this weekend so hopefully I'll test it out. There is about 200-300lbs of water, bowling balls, gas tank, cat litter, tools, etc. on it right now so its deffinitly strong.
